My son in also in 1209B - i finally found that this weekend when I asked where to send cookies!! Happy that he did well on yesterday's test since he told me that he didn't do so great on the first two quizzes! Its nice to hear that the first test is out of the way and goes a long way towards me feeling better!! He's coming home for Christmas and I think the entire family is going together on a tablet for him. Same thought as the Kindle, but with internet access when its available. Although i priced the Ipad and that's way up there so he may be getting money towards or a different one - any ideas about the Kindle fire? or any of the other tablets out there?

Also, re: gifts...I'm getting Cam a gift card for the NEX, for Subway, "general" gift cards that he can use anywhere. We're also going shopping online when he comes home so that he can pick out blanket, etc., and we'll just have them delivered to his room. That way he can get what it is he wants and not what I think he wants...that worked when he was little...now he has his own ideas (and I know y'all know what I'm talkin about!).  Also, he called me last night so very very excited--they had their first "real" test yesterday and he got a 3.57 out of 4...very very happy camper! Me? I was at the gym when he called and all I did was grin like a nutball the rest of the time I was there!

Well, this is the wreath I made the other night when I couldn't sleep.  I think it came out okay...can't wait for Cameron to come home for Christmas...hoping he'll get a kick out of it!

Hey everyone! For those who participated in the Stennis project--and dont know yet--some of the replies from the ship have started to be posted on the Project page. They bring a tear to the eye and remind us of how little our kids ask in return for their sacrifices.

hugs to all.

Sonja--I was going to get LadyLove a skirt for Christmas, but I think I am going to wait until her birthday in March. The navy is apparently the only one of the services that does not issue the uniform skirt and it is just a nice piece to have for a variety of purposes. There is also a company that you can get footie pajamas. Again, money issues ruined all these options for me--Binker loves footies and he outgrew the extra larges from the women's dept years ago. When someone posted about these, I was ecstatic. Google navy footed pajamas.

Well, today my son should have moved in in BS.  Waiting to hear that he's settled in, but who knows when that will be (in a week??).  He told us last week when we skyped that he bought himself a king-size comforter.  This is without knowing what size bed he gets in the furnished house he'll be renting with his buddies.  So now I am envisioning a twin-size bed with a huge king-size comforter.  LOL

My son is still in A-School.  He said he wanted a blanket for Christmas.  He said the rooms are cold from time to time.  We actually mailed him a blanket but he wants another one.  My mom is making him a one.  Just thought I would share... Looks like you already have some good ideas flowing here.

Mary, I also got my son a kindle. He loves to read and has a whole closet full of books. He can't take them with him on a ship. I figured he better switch over to electronic books to save space. I also got him amazon gift certificates to go with it so he can start his collection. Kindle also allows you to  get books from the library.(if your library participates). The library will only be an option for when they are not at sea.

Gift idea: (but check with your sailor first to be sure it's OK) ... internet service. Have the bill sent to you at home. Remember that your son/daughter may move from room to room at GC (some do; my son had the same room but different roommates during A school and power school). So no way can this be a surprise gift, but depending on your sailor's whereabouts, this might be super-appreciated.
