I won't get into tall tales Realtors are known to make. Some of the "best" agents are simply agents who do the most business which means they spend a great deal of money marketing themselves, they have a "team - lots of assistants" to take care of the details. Remember the relocation company gets a healthy referral fee from your agent's commission. I don't work w relo companies. Almost all my "relo" clients are referrals.

You could request to talk to her Broker. You should keep a record of your communications - a simple log would do. You should communicate by email. If I work w a vendor, I know that vendor by name and almost 100% of the time, their contact info is in my data base. No excuses for not knowing the names of experts she consulted with.  What about the recommended plumbers on the list from the law suit?  on the website?  There has been a movement to use PCP in place of copper pipes for residential homes. It's considerably less expensive and more flexible which means they won't break as easily in case of an earthquake. However, the connection has to be brass (I think). Call one of the plumbers on the reference list from the link and pay him to do a plumbing inspection and provide a report in writing.

Your agent getting you a home warranty program w/o you asking for one is irrelevant as far as prior knowledge of the situation. Besides, the home warranty companies and their vendors will know about the situation and this will be a pre-existing condition, thereby making it exempted from coverage.

Good luck - got to run out and see some houses.

Widow Maker - Based on my son's interpretation of the Widow Maker, he knew that it was coming up and he spent an additional 50 hours at Rickover (outside of classroom instruction) preparing for that test as he wanted to make sure he did well.  He came out with a 3.97 and then said, "it's wasn't so bad" !!!  Word is that it is the most difficult test in all of Power School though...that's about all I know about it.

Quiltblue - I love the wreath.  I hadn't thought about doing something like that but really like it as we have two Navy boys coming home for Christmas this year.  Maybe I can try my hand at that as well.  Thanks for sharing.

Oh even more gosh J! You were dealing with a relo company! That word in and of itself is anathema to me. Both our Louisville and our Elmira realtors were supposed to be "the best in the area" and they both sucked so bad it wasnt funny. And they were assigned by the relo company--who were ultimately responsible for the disaster we ended up in although Target umbrellaed them and did everything the relo said so when the relo let our deals fall through, Target rubber stamped them.

How many of you ladies are in the Upstate NY area? Maybe we should have a get together? around BS, maybe even. I have the number for the ombudsman--we could get the commander to force our sailors to come see their mothers!

Hate that empty arms feeling when they leave.  Virtual hugs to you, cameowlot!

Those darn kids!  With my kids so far away, if I could go for a weekend, I would be there in a millisecond.  Go for it while you can.  Once Binker goes to sea, who knows how that will go.

NancyJo--my one woman campaign to put them out of business! They dont get the bad press that others do because Oprah likes them but the stories I could tell about how they treat their employees and their executives. One of Jeff's friends (around 52 or so) was taken into a back room and the told him they would deny it had ever been said, but didnt he think he "was a little too old for this job"?

I spent 6 years trying to get rid of that hated house--finally sold it in April even though I took a beating on it. Now its finding a job up here so I can stay because I have to head back to Louisville in Jan when my leave is over. I am not sure I can leave Katie again--especially after having this time to finally get to know her. And then of course Binker is so near right now. I need to head back up there. Maybe Kate and I will make a quick visit this weekend. But he wont answer his phone!

Binker's mom, real estate is the WORST!  Three times in my life we were paying 2 mortgages trying to sell a house but trying to keep the family together in a move.  Once the buyers were actually at closing when the husband turned to the wife and said "Honey there's something I have to tell you".  He had lost their entire 20% deposit.  Who knows how and it really didn't matter.  The sale fell through.  I feel your pain.

Meanwhile, Target will never be the same to me either.  When they mess with one of our moms, my dander goes up.  I hate companies who jack around with their employees.

J's mom, what did the property inspector say about the plumbing system. He should note the type of pipes and if the fittings were Kitec and the plumbing community knew about it, then the property inspector would know about it too.  It is unlikely that ONLY the plumbers in the area knew about Kitec. Problems in the plumbing area are not confined to the plumbing community. Information concerning real estate is the public knowledge for all to examine.
