Bandito's mom...I'm glad you are acclamating!  I was the total opposite of you.  Well, not that I told my son to be violent or anything, but he did have cap guns, but not BB guns.  My son at age of 8 said he wanted to go into the Navy and I was 100% behind him.  I had a ton of grief from alot of people about it.  Everyone told me I was crazy to even allow him to think about going in the Navy.  However, he had his plans, he wanted to go into the Navy so he could get his college paid for, and I was all for it.  My parents, especially my mom, tried very very hard to talk him out of it the older he got.  however, he stuck to his guns and did go in.  I thought my mom would have a heart attack.  She is almost use to it now--he's been in for 9 months now.  She's proud of him but still wants him out...hahaha....

For those visiting Charleston, when we went in  February, we enjoyed the tour of Boone Plantation and a walking tour of historic Charleston.   Everyone's favorite was the graveside ghost tour.  There are a variety of tours to choose from.  Next time we might take a ferry tour in the Charleston Harbor.  We also spent an afternoon at Folly Beach.  Next time, we would consider surfing lessons.

My son actually told me about the N4M site.  Knew I would need it to adjust to his decision.  Also knew that I would find out all sorts of things that he needed to know and bring to his attention before he signed.  What a way for a kid to get his mom to do his homework for him!  Swear I didn't do that in high school.

As to adjusting to his decision, it has really helped.  I have been reading different groups since Nov, he signed up in Jan, and BC is in Sept.  I was able to acclimate to the idea, get past the devastation and fear, and move to being a proud Mom.  (and yes, I was devastated, one of those mom's who tried not to give him guns as a child)

Marybeth- Thanks for that link! I'll have to tell my grandpa to check it out. Since my brother is on a sub, he's all into the submarine stuff! :)

  and thanks for your info. about A school, power school and Prototype.  I would love to talk to a couple nukes, one that's served on a carrier, and one from a sub, just to get some idea of their experiences.  Anyone know of any books / biographies / etc. that would be a glimpse into their lives?  I know what they learn is classified (specific to duty assignment) but it's more the lifestyle that I'm interested in...???    Happy weekend, everyone.  Feel like I could sleep for 2 months.

mn linda- Aaron got his about 9 days after Power School. I think they tell them within two weeks, but it's generally within 10 days. I think-- not positive.

mary, my son graduated BC on Dec 3, was at GC on Dec 4.  Had 2 full weeks at Christmas for leave!  just graduated A school, and had 10 days as soon as he graduated! 

 

michael is doing a liltte better, can walk some.  is icing and elevating, and taking Advil...
