Oh the memories of PIR.  I tell you, I was great until they called LIBERTY and that is when the watery eyes started.  I could just almost feel and hear the sigh of relief that all of the recruites let out.  My son had a few challenges in bootcamp, which I mentioned before I think, sever shin splints and swollen calves, a black mass they found on his kidney, illness, wisdom teeth.  It was such a relief when we knew he was through and was o.k.

Now we are still battling the severe sprained ankle and wondering how that is all going to play out for his future.

we sat about 3 or 4 rows up...right in front of the sign that said DIV 152.   When the divisions came in, DIV 152 was on the OTHER SIDE of the "press box" where the VIPs sit, not where they had put the sign, or had us sit!  So, DIV 153 was right in front of us, not DIV 152.  We didn't see our son until after the ceremony when liberty was called.  Yes, we had binoculars, but it's harder to see things far away AND at an angle!  Oh, well.  Looking forward to A school graduation.  I'm guessing I'll have a better seat!

well he had all of his letters we sent and a few things that he wanted us to take from him so he didnt have to take them to GC with him...he said he didnt have room in his seabag for all that stuff and that was the best time for us to take it from him. the best thing i remember that day was in the car once we got off base and far enough away he let out a HUGE sigh of relief, like he had been holding in that breath for 8 weeks

Andi...my sailor was the same way, wanted to get off base ASAP! But he didn't need to grab anything so we just walked right out :)

we sat up in the top area, but were the first row. so it took us a little bit of time to get downstairs to him when liberty was called, but we had a pretty decent view thru the railings. when his division was marching in i have no idea how but his brother spotted him first...and there was a very short kid next to him and he is about 5'10" haha and he was a section leader so once they were finally lined up he was the first one in his row...and the short kid was now behind him. so in all the pictures i took of them lined up you can easily spot him!! i remember him looking forward the whole time but he claims he glanced up at us a few times during the ceremony. and we probably got there around 8 and his brother and i both had our ipods and were making jokes to pass the time before it started. he was just being his normal self. as soon as we found him though it was a SUPER short reunion..quick hugs, i got a quick kiss, then he was like "ill meet you at the nex i wanna go get my stuff so we can go" he didnt want to waste ANYMORE time on base than he had too

Oh and by the way the Sailors ARE ALLOWED to wear their contacts at PIR. I sent Diego his lenses, case and solution and he was told he was NOT ALLOWED to wear them, though he was allowed to wear his own glasses and not the BCG. On FB there was a thread that covered this subject and I commented that D wasn't allowed to wear them and I was told to send them a message as they want to take care of it so it doesn't happen again. Honestly, I never sent a message. It is done and over and can't change things. Then again, sitting here thinking about it now maybe I should send a message so it never happens to another division. ??? What to do?

When we went last November we were able to get good seats. Well, Kelsey and I did anyway. We sat in the second row and hubby, Korey and Kacy were a number of rows behind us. When liberty was announced, Kelsey jumped through the railing and was the first one on the floor as she said she was going to be. I have all her stuff to carry along with mine that I was the last one to get to Diego. I was walking around with my arms loaded with stuff and I was looking all around for them all. I have to laugh, I was the last to get to him. I was honestly shocked though, he had lost a lot of weight. He had gotten sick as well as having his wisdom teeth out, so he lost quite a bit and he didn't have much to lose. He has gained it all back now and looks great!!!

We sat on the third row directly across from where his division was going to line up, we go there early, but probably was in the 2nd group of 100 people allowed in. I took the small blanket that I created for him (that matches my profile photo-he helped me with the layout of his quilt before he left for BC) and he found us because of that. The tell them which section their families are supposed to sit in, so they will look for you in that lower section first. If you get there late, you will have to sit where ever there is room and you might not be able to see your Sailor! The best moment is when those rolling doors go up and you see those marching feet!!! The 2nd best is when you make eye contact with them! We got great photos!

I felt like I had the best seat in the house....we were in the seating that was on the floor - top row of those bleachers. We were able to stand (on the seat sometimes, too) whenever we wanted because there was no one behind us. That made for some awesome pictures, and also helped our sailor to find us easily! We didn't have to worry about coming downstairs from the top bleachers when liberty was called - and by the time we walked down the bleacher stairs, our sailor had beelined straight to our bleachers. It was wonderful!

With all that being said, we were in the first 20 people let into the hall. I couldn't sleep the night before anyways because I was so excited so I figured I might as well get over there! We brought some snacks/drinks in our purses, and brought some small games to play to pass the time until PIR started. It worked perfectly for us.....were all very pleased!
