WOW, Jeanne we thought we were the only ones with the term, "Grandma Clean."  My mother is truly obsessive compulsive and if you want to enjoy her visit at all you have to have your house terminally clean.  That means everything needs to be done spotless, everywhere.  I have two funny stories about one of her visits right after I had my first child.  I went right back to work ten days after she was born and my Mom flew out from back east for five weeks until I could take her to work with me.  I run a preschool.  One day she tried to move the refrigerator to clean behind it and it started to fall on her.  She panicked but she did finally right it.  A couple of weeks later I came home from work and there has a plastic cover on my dining room table and my vacuum was taken apart and was in pieces spread out on the table.  My mother said she had serviced it and wondered, "when was the last time I had done that, it was so bad!"  She does hers every six months.  Geez.  The stories really go on and on.  She has snaked drains for me because they are slow with a snake she had actually packed in her luggage.  When I grew up the neighbors always talked about the day they caught her vacuuming the driveway!

Diana, I will remember you and your son in my prayers as he heads on a different journey now.  I only recently joined this group (my son's PIR was 4/22).  I thought my worries would be less now that he completed bootcamp, but I think they are just beginning!  God bless both of you!  Let us know how he does in his new position.

Good idea, elizabeth. I think to be fair, though, there should be a panel of judges. Since I live relatively nearby (in the same quadrant of the US), I nominate myself to sit on the panel and contribute my unique and impartial cake ball judging abilities.

Prayers for you and your son, Diana. You are part of our family, I hope you will still drop by to see us. I have only been "in" for 6 months, and I have already seen several sailors in various groups have their Navy plans changed due to disciplinary, academic, or medical issues. It happens, more than we think. My hope is that your son thrives in his new position, it can be a new beginning. Looking forward to hearing about his progress...

OK, I have a new idea.  Suppose I am the judge and you each send me 6 that you have made.  I will savor them and announce the winner!!!

Diana~Hugs and prayers.  I'm glad to hear he's not out of the Navy.

Laughing, laughing.  NUKE moms and Cake Balls.  A competition/comparison sounds like fun!  I think I could make the ball but actually posting a picture would be the end of me!

House remodeling and weddings...my husband took down walls, floors, ceilings, and the entire bathroom prior to my daughter's wedding.  The carpet was laid 2 days before the wedding and the furniture delivered the day before.  Oh, and we had the rehersal dinner at our house.  I could have killed him!  I made flower girl and Jr bridesmaids dresses amid the chaos and tried to keep them white :<  MEN!

Dor - I used to always bake and take it to work.  Loved to bake, just didn't want it sitting around the house for us to eat.  So we'd keep just a little and take the rest in.   My cake balls turned out good.  Like I said, I made a yellow cake and mixed in Almond Joy flavored coffee creamer.  I dipped them in the candy coating chocolate and white vanilla coating that I had on hand left over from Christmas and Valentine's Day strawberry dipping.  I put some sprinkles on the white ones because I didn't htink about it when I first did the choc. ones.  They taste good.  I would like to try some other flavors and coatings for them, but a fun change of pace to make.  My daughter is trying to eat a non-gluten diet right now, just for the heck of it, so darn, now my husband and I will ahve to eat them.  :)  Just what we needed.

Emily, I will keep that in mind.  I really doubt I can come right now, but it does sound tempting.  I have been thinking about my uncle a lot, and I haven't been back there to see my grandma's grave yet.  She passed away 6 years ago. I had taken the kids back to meet her about 8 or 9 years ago, so haven't been there since.  I couldn't get there to her funeral because, the strangest thing, my other grandma in California passed away on the same day and both funerals were on the same day.  So of course Calif. is closer for us so we went there. My poor dad had to go back to Dayton by himself while my mom went to Calif. It was just a very strange time.

*hugs* to Diana! I say you're still welcome here anytime! I'd love to hear updates on your son as he continues his Navy journey!

Kat- We're super close to Dayton! It's where we have to go for any good shopping. We're only about an hour up the interstate. :) For serious, let me know if you ever come visit! I'd be more than happy to drive and meet you somewhere! Or if you are here the 29th, I'll give you directions to my partay. :)

Diana, Wishing you and your sailor all the best.  You should keep us updated.

I think we all need to have a cakeball decorating contest and post the pictures on Nuke Moms.  Everyone gets a vote , but you can't vote for yourself.  No hurt feelings, just lots of fun.  What do you all think?  We can make them within two weeks but not post the pictures until we are all ready.  (Really I'm not competitive, I just like competitions.  He he he.  Don't even need to win, just like the fun.   :)
