Does anyone know if an emergency-type leave is allowed with the death of a grandparent. I know the rule is "Immediate family." My mom thought that included grandparents... I know I've read this somewhere but can't remember where...

Team Edward. :)

Although, I wouldn't pass up Jacob if he happened to appear at my front door...:)

When Binker came home for his 10 days over Thanksgiving, he got a call at 6 in the morning "Petty Officer you are scheduled for watch and are missing". He said, "I'm on leave" and they said okay and hung up. Who knows.

I haven't heard anything yet this morning.  My son is in classes now, so I will not hear from him until later on today.  I do pray for a speedy and safe return of my son's roomate.  He did not know his roomate very well so he really had no idea where he may have gone over the weekend.

My son was too sick over leave to feel like going anywhere!  I think he was happy to hang out with us at home and sleep.  I even think he missed his little brother!?

Again, I hope the missing roomate is ok no matter what the circumstances.  If I hear anything more, I will make sure I pass it on.

Mary- Aaron acted the same way when he was on break. I was his official DD, and he even walked home a few times from the bar. There was a big party at a college a lot of the kids from his class go to. He was really looking forward to it, but when he figured out there would be some behavior there that the Navy would frown upon, he made the decision to stay home with me instead. I was super proud of him. :)

The missing sailor is a mystery. I hope it's a simple explanation. That does remind me of last October, when my son returned to GC after coming home for his grandpa's funeral. Classes hadn't yet started and I guess he had had the briefs that were scheduled the day after his return, so he was doing whatever they told him to (watch, I think). Somebody in charge didn't know this and wondered where he was. I came home from work around 6 p.m. to a message on our answering machine (left around ten a.m.) wondering where he was. Panic set in--they lost my son!? He had texted me when he arrived the day before that he had arrived safe and sound, so I was really confused. The next message, timed a bit later, was my son, sounding frustrated, assuring us he was fine. He was right where he was supposed to be, but not everyone knew this, so they were looking for him. I guess a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing. Sheeze! Even though it doesn't sound like that now, I hope it's a similar case of confusion for the missing sailor.

I am worried about my son's roomate, too.  I talked to my son about an hour ago and still no word on where he was. My son is trying to not be unnerved by this, but I am sure he is.  It would be hard not to be affected.  I hope he shows up tonight.  I told my son that there is always a way to work things out and that no matter what he should call us anytime.  He told me not to worry, but I felt like I needed to tell him that.  I hate to think of anyone out there by themselves, thinking there is no one to help if that is the case.  I will pray for his roomate's safe return.
