I totally agree about the missing sailor.  Let's pray that he is ok and will be found very soon!

You know, I am really worried about the missing roommate.  I don't care what he may have done at home on leave, to be this scared to have disappeared like that, that poor kid is out there somewhere all alone, I assume.  I sure hope that things work out for him and that he can somehow get things together and get on the right path.  It just breaks my heart to hear about stuff like this.

Emily- If they send him out to the fleet to get qualified like they have been doing for some MMs, that could count towards his fleet time. :)

Kathy- Aaron has heard about your son's roommate. Apparently they've been searching for him for quite awhile. Checked all the hospitals, called his parents, etc. Rumor is it's due to the pee test they had on the Monday after break... Everyone thinks it's because he knows he did something at home he wasn't supposed to.

Aaron couldn't believe I had heard about it. Keep us updated!!

Right now, the word going round is six months hold for MM's.

Four years in fleet a must. If training takes more than two years, that's life in the Navy.

Hey ladies! I have a question I was wondering if anyone could answer. Well, actually two.

1. Does anyone know what the hold is looking like for Prototype for MMs right now?

2. My fiancee thought he heard somewhere that his contract will get extended if his schooling lasts longer than 2 years. Has anyone else heard this? Or does anyone know if this it true?

Hi Kat, Yea, I do not know what happened to the roomate and neither does my son.  He asked the petty officer today and they are trying to find the roomate.  He left all his stuff including his laptop, so I hope is ok, too.  So does my son.

My son is getting ready for classes and I have heard that it is very intense.  I think he can handle it, but I am sure there will be a learning curve with it.  Everything new has one.  He is concerned right now that he had gained some weight.  I am not too concerned about that.  He was pretty skinny, but I guess I am glad that he is paying attention to staying in shape.  My son seems to be unnerved mostly about the "taking care of himself " stuff although, he has just started with the classes, so that may be a concern soon.

He, too, brought home a nasty boot camp bug at Christmas and it took us forever to get over it.  My husband is still coughing and my voice is still a little raspy.  I lost my voice for a week or so right after Christmas which is tough when you work retail.

I am glad that you can get those quick messages from your son on facebook. My son has been able to call us or I send him a quick text in the morning to let him know we are thinking about him.  It makes me feel better and I think he likes getting them. I know the frequency of calls and texts will end when classes go full tilt.  My husband will probably have a harder time not hearing from our son so much.  He has been worse than I am!  My pastor at church explained the part of the father/son connection that I was missing.  Now I feel badly about not being a little more sympathetic.  I just did not want my son to get too homesick.

Well, my younger son is downstairs doing something that I should probably check on.  Good kid, but he has some disabilities and can be interesting to say the least.  I will let you know what I hear on the missing roomate.  I, too, am worried now that he had an accident or something like that.  Hopefully he will show up tonight. Kat, I hope you are all better soon!

Amanda- I went for the picture with the sign! :) The whole town is very touristy now, which is super sad since it's such a cute little town. And I was definitely one of those crazies out the opening night of Twilight. :) Although the movies definitely do NOT do the books justice!!

Kathy- I agree with Kat, please keep us updated on the roommate! That is so crazy! If he missed his watch, you can bet that the Navy is out looking for him by now!

Mrs. Andy- I do hope your son is reinstated! Sounds like he really showed his stuff up in Chicago. :) I wish you and your son the best!! :)

Kathy - please keep us updated on the missing roommate.  that is so strange.  I sure hope he is o.k.

Glad your son is getting down to starting classes.  It will help him to get focused.  From what my son said, the classes are very intense.  Last week he said he was just lost and overwhelmed by the amount of material they need to memorize.  I know he is smart and I know he will do well with it IF he can buckle down and put his best effort forward.  Like all of our Nukes, he really wants this so we're keeping fingers crossed as he goes through the motions.

He is in A school now.  Started mid Nov.

your son will get really busy about the 3rd or 4th week when they add the watch qualifying duty to their normal daily routine.  He'll have a couple of weeks of trying to fit in the extra 12 hours of training, so it will take up a lot of his weekend.  My son did all of that right before Christmas, so was very relieved to have a break right then.

He doesn't seem to want to talk very much, so I have to settle for those quickl little messages back and forth on Facebook.  I know they don't get good phone reception in their rooms, and if it's cold outside he sure doesn't want to have to go outside to talk.  Skype works great in their rooms though.  He lost his roommate last week as he finished A school and was moved to new quarters.  The roommate is the one who had the internet set up, so not sure what they all did about keeping it, but he's online today so they must have figured it out.

I haven't been on here much for the last week or so.  My son brought some devil illness home with him at Christmas and while he didn't stay down with it for too long, it really hit me and I ended up with Bronchitis and double ear infections.  Now I'm having a problem that both ears are plugged up and I can't hear real well, plus when I talk I just sound like I'm talking to myself inside my head.  Very frustrating to be like this for the last week.  Have antibiotics so hopefully it will eventually help.  Definately a wicked virus from the south.
