Hi Miranda: Don't plan too much - just enjoy him and let him relax. The first time Adam came home it seemed like all he did was sleep. Being anxious will work to your advantage now - get all that little stuff done that you want to. Then, enjoy them both. -

Thank goodness for this site! Even though I know what my son is - MM3 - if I would have seen that, I would have questioned what it meant, cuz I am used to spelling the whole thing out! It helps to know all these shortcuts and stuff, and be able to find answers to questions without looking like an idiot.

Gayle - thanks! If I am hearing correctly they are at least 2 - 3 1/2 months behind on graduation now.

I am trying to figure out what to do about xmas - I have until midweek (next week) to send my packages to Spencer. But I don't know if he will know by then if he is going to be home.

Media Mom - what a great website! I saved it to favorites! Spence doesn't tell me everything - I think just what he thinks is pertinent - like oh, I am going to NY, or we are shutdown for right now. Not any of the little stuff. Although I told him I found this site, and that I am on here alot, and so now I am asking all these questions, and getting more answers. But at least I know what to ask now!

There's always more than one nickname ... lots of "gentle" teasing and competition between rates. What's used at power school and prototype tends to be different than what's used on ships and what's used on subs ... and so forth. Basically, we can all be right as there's so many variations, plus nickname trends rise and fall.

Our sailor is on the USS Pennsylvania Blue Crew in Bangor, WA. He has been in six years this November. I still feel like I know next to nothing. I'm so glad that I found this site - and took time to look for some help and answers. I look forward to reading and learning for all of you!

LOL, Cheryl ... he's a snipe, it most certainly does apply to nukes. It applies to any of the "fireman" rates, the red stripers. He'll find out when he goes to the fleet. Sure, they're proud to be nukes, I understand that. STILL! A snipe is a snipe is a snipe. No insult, but really, you can't fool old sailors. My hubby about bust a gut chuckling.

Red = snipe
White = deck
Green = airdale

Pure Navy tradition, no matter what they're trying to say at Power School.

Ok, can someone help me? I am trying to figure out how to do a slideshow on my page, rather than have all the pics take up space. How do you do this? I am sure it is something simple, but I can't figure it out right now!

Gayle - I will guess they are going with some time the end of Feb - or maybe mid Feb. That is about 3 1/2 months out from his original date - which would put Spence around May sometime.

This shutdown that happened in October - was that the only delay that Aaron had?

Spence did tell me yesterday that he MIGHT be home for xmas - we are hoping so, but he hasn't been given official word that they have time off.

And I can't remember who asked me - Spence is an MM3. And he is signed up for aircraft, but is thinking about switching to subs.

Susie - great idea! I will put some recipes together in a recipe box for him and do as a present! I have some really great ones that are so easy, and he is just learning how to make stuff that you don't just pour out of the can and pop in the microwave! I know he can cook and stuff, but I always did it for him growing up, and so he never actually MADE the stuff!
