While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Comment by Anti M on November 26, 2008 at 1:30am: I could make a very educated guess about Balston Spa and holds, but it isn't something I would speculate on in public. A nuclear reactor on hold? Think about it, think about it carefully.

Comment by Trina (Spencer's Mom) on November 25, 2008 at 9:49pm: Jacquie - yeah, I saw the email about that. I wouldn't post anything here that would get my son in trouble. When I said that I wasn't supposed to talk about it, it was just because it had just happened, and he said nothing was being said at that point, so he didn't want it broadcast. 6 weeks into being on hold, it wasn't a problem for me to say anything about them being on hold. Everyone knows it.

Comment by Trina (Spencer's Mom) on November 25, 2008 at 9:37pm: Cindy - finally got ahold of my son. They are back in school! They started back yesterday. So they are getting back on track. He said his grad date is being pushed back, but no word yet on when it will be. He did also find out that he has Thursday - Sunday off, but they didn't tell him until yesterday, and now it is to late to come home for Thanksgiving. And with them starting school, and being 'operational' by Christmas, he won't be able to come home for that either.

But luckily one of his housemates families lives 2 hours away, and so they are going there for Thanksgiving.

Comment by Trina (Spencer's Mom) on November 25, 2008 at 9:21pm: Cindy - I do think some of it has to do with confidential stuff - my son told me flat out when this started (the hold) that I wasn't suppose to talk about it - he wouldn't have told me when he did, I just happened to call him, and he told me they were on hold. Now that it has gone on for 6 weeks, he is freer with info, but I still don't think I have the whole story.

As soon as I hear from him I will post what I know. I am glad I found this site - I actually heard about it on a tv commercial, and am so glad - it has alot of info. And I can talk to others going through the same thing!

It has been driving us crazy for over a month - they went on hold mid October and early last week they told him 4 - 6 more weeks before they would start, then Friday they said, oh wait, you might be starting back up Monday (yesterday).

I have been trying to call him tonight to find out what is going on, and his phone says the call cannot be completed - unfortunately I have no other way to get ahold of him because they don't have a house phone - he lives off base with three other guys.

If they told him he is going to Balston, then maybe they are starting back up this week. My son was supposed to graduate Feb 20 from prototype, but now we don't know when because they have been on hold for 6 weeks now.

That's the Professional Development page for advancement to E-5, but at the bottom is a chart giving notification dates and advancement cycles. The link at the bottom takes you to the advancement page for E-6. They aren't all advanced at the same time.
