Ok, I just read their schedule, above, and think that I may have answered my question. Is graduation always on a Friday, like BC?
Comment by britefuture on March 14, 2013 at 8:33am
Good morning everyone. Is there a way that I can figure out my sons "A" school grad date? Everytime I ask him I get, " um I'm not sure, I think it's June 8". I don't want to agitate him by asking, every time we talk. However, I want to be there for him and, as we all know, these trips take some planning. Plus, we have a family wedding in June, yikes.

I came down for the power school graduation.  Although it did not compare with BC graduation it was a thrill to be there.  I just said goodbye to my son.  It was so hard knowing that I cannot see him for 8-10 months.  He will have to go through NJ on his way to prototype so I will see him then but it will be a very long wait.

We stayed at the Villas.  Having all that room was wonderful but I need to warn anyone contemplating a stay there.  They are old and rundown.  That is tolerable.  What was hard to put up with was the lack of cleanliness.  We wiped everything down with Lysol wipes.  They also do not have any hangars.  On the other hand, they have picnic tables and bar-b-ques.  Once we cleaned up the place it was a pleasure to stay there.  As an added bonus they come with a washer and dryer.

GodBlessAmerica -- I agree with you...doesn't matter...I'm gonna be there.  My daughter is married and has a baby and my son is at A school, so we are thankful that my husband and I can get away from work and attend all these milestones because we have no one at home to attend to.  If anyone is going to be at A school graduation on June 28...I'll be there and would love to meet you.  Also going to go see him for Easter.

i so agree with you !! GodBless America < thanks for your comment ! we already went to see my son once in mid February, and it was really good seeing him and that he likes what he is doing.. and yes i will try to attend every " event" that  may come up, i did the same thing in High School, never missed a swim meet or a track meet..honors night... lol so why stop now ?? right ??

i believe he gets to go on leave, just not sure for how long, since he came home after Bootcamp over christmas . so will just have to wait and see!

Comment by GodBlessAmerica on March 13, 2013 at 10:25am

Pietschie, if they put in for leave, I think they get somewhere between 7 and 10 days.

It doesn't matter if A school graduation is not as a "big" of deal as Power School.  In my opinion, whatever graduation your sailor is going through,it is a big deal for him/her and should be celebrated!  As parents, we need to be our children's biggest cheerleaders/support system while keeping it real for them.  :)

Comment by Caryatid on March 13, 2013 at 10:02am

We went to A School grad in Feb.  They have to ask for leave, and my sailor didn't have any after coming home for Christmas.  However, they do get weekend liberty every weekend.  After the ceremony was finished, he changed clothes and he was ours until Sunday evening.  I think he wanted to be back by 1500--he likes to be early--they may not need to be back until later.

We were happy to be at the Villas--we each got a separate bedroom.  I'm sure he was happy to be sleeping ALONE again!

congrats to all who graduated power school on friday !! my son has "A" school graduation on April 19, and i know that it has been posted on here, that it is not a big deal compare to Power school, but we are going anyways !! Any excuse to get out of the cold Michigan, lol Does anybody know, if they get leave ? and if for how long ?? than ks !!
