Mary I am from New Hampshire not New York so I am no help in the bakery department syorry Lol.

By the way Cody'smom is correct they cannot die for our country yet, at this point they are just paid professional students at a Navy training command. They are there for one thing only to STUDY STUDY STUDY and for those who choose to drink underage instead of follow orders not to drink, Captain's Mast is held weekly. Guitar is fine though. By the time they get to prototype they are no longer assigned to a training command.

Don't worry they will make friends and have fun but please tell them do not drink if they are under age. This whole thing that if they can die for our country they should be able to drink thing won't cut it. My son almost got in some hot water which wasn't cool. So...if underage please spread the news!

Very sorry to hear about the 2 sailors at Ballston Spa prototype who died in an automobile accident over the weekend.  I have driven in both locations myself, and driving in the Ballston Spa area is different.  It is a lot more rural than Charleston, speeds on state highways are higher and you are on divided highways, and there are some dangerous intersections around there.  It is really sad we have lost  3 Ballston Spa nuke sailors in the past 3 months due to motor vehicle accidents.

navyknit22, I understand what you're saying, but they DO need distractions from time to time. They have to give their brains a chance to reboot. Mine doesn't play an instrument, but he sings, loves to run and on Friday nights he goes to the Ravenel bridge to run--helps him to disconnect from the week and lessen the stress. He still studies his little behind off--even though he's completely on voluntary hours--but he learned during A-school that he needs to take a break and do something totally outside of learning to be able to learn, and more importantly, retain more.

My son just bought a guitar on leave.  It sure looks like they need a little music in their lives.

Penny, are they forming a band?  Just sent his Les Paul last week in our xmas tree box - he'll get some ribbing for that.  $94 - ugh

Sandra, he does need you!

Comment by Penny_Nuke_MM2_NimitzNuke on October 1, 2012 at 2:00pm

One of the first things my son asked to be sent was his guitar .... so once I found a guitar box and then stuffed it totally full around every angle outside of the case and all the way to every single available space in the box, it was also about $80.00.  UGH

MOMofDrew2.0 - You are so right!  My son PIR on 9/21.  I kept offering to send him this or that (as us moms do) and he said Nah, I'll just wait and see when I get there and buy what I need then.... Now that he's been there a week, he messaged me asking me to send snacks and whatnots - because his room mate got a care package full of goodies.... At least now I feel like he "needs" me.  Of course that was just the beginning.  This week a huge box full of his Xbox, Ihome and other electronics are on it's way...$72.00 later!
