PollyAnna, I am in awe of your work. So great to know that this beautiful artform has not died out. Just lovely.

OMG, Bandito. I was thinking of Clockwork Orange also and don't know why but also Soylent Green.

I posted yesterday and then had to go back 6 pages to find the post and see what has happened since then!

and because I want to comment on everything:

Dor, I am so, so happy that you had a great day and absolutely love that your mom kept up a real tree!

J's mom, desensitization reminded me too much of Clockwork Orange,,,, I can see the reasoning behind the process, but scares me silly.  Would worry me to have my child go through that all most as much as it would worry me that he wouldn't talk about things.  Wish we really knew all the answers.

Absolutely amazing crochet... my Mom's best friend does work like that, and even sews in zippers by hand .... but until now, she was the only one I knew that was able to anything like that.... you ladies blow me away.

As for me, I am proud that I made French Onion Soup (Clean Eating Version) for the very first time and it was delicious!

Pollyanna- those doilies are so beautiful. Wonderful handwork. I knit, have made everything from scarves, cowls, hats and socks. I won't do a sweater though. Too much work for something that might not fit.

Way back when I was in nursing school, I crocheted a huge afghan. I sold pints of blood to make money to buy yarn so that I could finish that thing. :>)

J's mom- your sweater story had me laughing hard also.

We really don't know what causes one child to have more self confidence than another. They both are made of the same DNAs. Both brought up in the same environment. Birth order? maybe? Lots of studies have been done on this subject matter.  My husband and sailor (older son) made me furious regularly. They would needle younger son by calling him 790 because he couldn't match his father's or his brother's perfect 800 on some stupid SAT test. He probably would've gotten the 800 if he had signed up for the test on the date he went to take it. In his absentmindedness he forgot. He studied like a dog. The next time, he didn't bother. That was 7/8 years ago - it still bothers him.

Sigh, we could talk about this forever. I just don't know what the answer is. I keep encouraging our younger son. I tell him that Henry Mancini got Cs, Ds and a few Fs but wrote Moon River (I read that in the NY Times today). I tell him a lot of people succeed in life w/o success in the classroom.  I tell him to find his own passion and go for it, even if it means no $$$ pay off.  The issue is not intelligence or talent - he has plenty of both - but more ???  I don't really know.

Pollyanna--I will keep your son and you as well in my prayers. I can only imagine what you are going thru. I pray I don't have to go thru that but with 3 children, it is possible:(  My oldest is the one that is in Boot Camp right now. I pray that it will get better for you both!

I am currently crocheting a baby blanket for our new grandson and am working on the edging rows and I've lost my crochet hook.  grrrr and I can't remember what size I bought.  so might not be done with the blanket before his baptism.
