Emily, As far as I know taking college classes for this power school graduating class is a priviliege that had to be granted.  It would be instead of a job for grad hold.  Very few of them got to.  I am thinking my son said it had to do with grade point averages.  But I am not 100% sure of that.

My3sons...what type of work did they have your son do at Patriot's Point?

I have to share this poem written by our daughter, Kacy. She is 15 years old and will enter into the Navy upon graduating in three years. She will follow her brothers, Diego and Korey (who will enter next year).

Overseas

The sun's rays beat down as

Sweat droplets hit the dust

And when that sun turns into dusk

The chills will run up their spines

Can you hear it?

Would you live it?

They do; for me and you.

Socks pulled knee high

And boots tied tight

Gun in their hand

Kneeled down at the Amercian flag

Giving up their lives in the line of duty

To fight for our freedoms

From high in the sky

To the depths of the sea

Can you hear it?

Would you live it?

They do; for me and you.

Awaiting for letters weekly

They read through the tear stains

Remembering that last kiss goodbye

Looking forward for that first hug hello

Bullets flying through the air

Not knowing every second they're there

Whether they will return for their funeral

Or in the arms of family members

Can you hear it?

Would you live it?

They do; for me and you.

having worked for Delta for 12 years, (mostly as a training instructor for gate and ticket agents) just want to say that ever since the DL/NW merger, there are big "gaps" in how people are trained.  Worse at stations that were NW, including MSP.  Sorry to hear about the incident, and I'm sure a LOT of DL employees are, too.  A lot of the pilots are former military, and there are many military moms and dads working for DL.  It's a shame that employees don't feel empowered to make decisions on their own.  Common sense would dictate an attitude of gratitude for any active military personnel, especially returning from combat.  Delta will fix this, but the damage is already done.  They will probably refund what was charged, or give them vouchers for future travel...

Penny, oh got ya!! Makes sense!

Sharon, I was talking about our boys going back and forth from Goose Creek - that is nonsense what Delta did to those guys coming back from Afghanistan.
Comment by Sharon ~ K's Mom on June 8, 2011 at 3:46pm

Penny, the issue is that Delta charged extra for the "4th" bag which was the gear. It states you are allowed three bags weighing a certain amount.

I am glad to see that Delta has covered their a***. They shouldn't be charging our military for any bags!!! Heck, let's see................you want me to pay for baggage, then here is a bill for protecting your life and freedom in the grand ole USA!!!!!! Sorry, just had to. I get torked when people do this stuff.

Luv, I think that would be enough. I hope they allow your son to wear his contacts. All material says they can, but when Diego was to PIR and I sent his contacts, case and solution he was told that he couldn't wear them. They did allow him to wear his own glasses, but I was pretty upset that I sent them to him and he wasn't allowed to wear them.

In regards to on base housing. Yes, they will live together and be home each night. Like Emily said, it will depend on hours of study time. There is no wait on housing, when they get married all they had to do is call housing, fax the marriage license to them and they will have a house ready and waiting for them when they arrive. They just go to housing and sign all the paperwork and get the keys. Diego and Kelsey did that and everything worked out for them. They didn't get a new house, nor one that was re-done.............yep they got one of the old ones. It is their first home, they have been getting things slowly. It all works out well.

My son came home to Washington State after A-school graduation in mid-May and flew Delta.  They asked to see his LEAVE orders and his military ID and they told him that he was allowed 3 bags of luggage up to 70 lbs. each.  No problem at all !!!!  He brought three pieces - one garment bag, one large suitcase 49# and another large bag that was 69#.  They didn't bat an eye nor charge him a cent extra.
