While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

In the event of an emergency within the sailor’s family, where you feel the sailor must be notified and considered for Emergency Leave, you must notify the American Red Cross through the national headquarters in Washington, DC (1-877-272-7337) or via their website www.redcross.org.

They asked to see his LEAVE orders and his military ID and they told him that he was allowed 3 bags of luggage up to 70 lbs. each. No problem at all !!!! He brought three pieces - one garment bag, one large suitcase 49# and another large bag that was 69#. They didn't bat an eye nor charge him a cent extra.

Comment by amanda on June 8, 2011 at 1:59pm: Jacob and I are flying Continental (also United now) and we get 3 free checked bags up to 70 pounds for military!! (active duty. on military orders or not, doesn't matter) It makes it so much nicer for moving all my crap over to NY :) Leaving Sunday!!

"Additionally, military personnel traveling on personal business will be allowed two checked bags up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and 62 linear inches (158 cm) at no charge."

In other words Sailors on leave or liberty get two checked bags for free. Your son is entitled to a refund, unless this is a brand new policy, which is possible Lol.

To prove that you are "military personnel" you just need to show them that DoD ID card.

Do they usually stay in Charleston and do whatever and then head to Ballston Spa if that's where they're doing prototype? Or are some people sent to New York and then assigned a job?
