Leiland, not all divisions within the same PIR date are grad and go.  My son was in the second to the last division of the number range, so he was division 363 and the number range started at 355 I think.  The lower numbers were grad and go.  His division, and his brother division, 364, were held at Great Lakes until the following Wednesday.  We got all weekend with him.  So don't expect them all to be grad and go.  Your son should know for sure by now I'd think and let you know in a letter.  My son thought he would be grad and go when he first left for bootcamp, but it didn't end up that way.

Does anyone know if the 6/10/2011 PIR SRs headed for NUKES  . . . . are they Grab and Go, or will we possibly be able to spend Saturday the 11th with them?

I don't know about putting power school on hold, yet, Elizabeth.  I think he has to continue with the therapy to see what happens and what they think down the road.  I don't know if this type of thing could require surgery or if that would help in his situation.  If he can keep up with school at least, that will be good.  it sounds like he will be able to.  It's just such a shame that when he first injured it they didn't do more then.  They coudl see how swollen and black and blue it was then.  it would stand to reason that he should have gotten right into physical therapy.  Now two months down the road it may take longer to get the same results they could have gotten way back when it all happened. one of those freak things about falling down stairs.  he wasn't doing anything wrong, it just happened.

My thoughts are with you and your son, Kat.  Can he put power school on hold and take care of his ankle?

Comment by Kris, Stevens mom on May 9, 2011 at 2:25pm

Kat - hopefully things will work out for him, also I hope the instructors are understanding.  From someone whos rehabbing from knee surgery tell him he has to keep up with the therapy as much as a pain in the but it'll become.

regarding if someone doesnt make it in the nuke program..sometimes they have to pay back any bonus money they received too...

the marine corp is part of the Navy - could explain some about the therapists.

finally I have a very cute & informative history of aprons for anyone interested...mine is black with pink polka dots, its rufflely & has a big pink K on the pocket - looks like one out of the 50's.

Well, I told you all before about my son falling down the stairs on base back in March and messing up his ankle.  He then messed it up again within a week when it gave out on him, ended up in off base emergency room then.  They finally approved him to go to Physical therapy, which took another two weeks to get into.  he went there this morning and was told that he has the most severe type of sprain and that they do come in twos so it isn't surprising he did it twice within a short period of time.  Now he will have PT twice a week for 4 weeks, but don't know if that is going to be enough to get him running again.  He is pretty worried about not being able to run and pass PFAs, which could end up with a medical discharge.  OF course now I'm extremely worried.  NOt what any of us would ever want to have happen. I know God has a plan for all of us, but we thought the plan was for him to be a Nuke in the Navy.  Saying prayers that all of this will work out for the best.

It will be a challenge to get to therapy since Power School just started.  He went today during a time that they had in class study hall so at least he didn't miss new material.  Tried to plan his next sessions the same so that at least he can study more at night and not miss new material.  I thought I was getting my stress under control but now not so sure.

PT schools are actually moving more and more towards being  Doctor of PT programs versus a masters. I worked in a PT office for the past year, and the PTs who had masters were going to take additional classes so they could have the DPT, and the office was not hiring anyone who had just graduated from an MPT program. More and more school required every year....

My Sailor called last night to say "Happy Mother's Day" and he said he was so homesick...nice to know he misses us.

Dor~Pearls are nice but do you wear hose and high-heals with that apron??

Winter storm warning which means snow...I'm thinking boots and mittens...Yuck!  Have a warm and happy Monday.

I know all the corpsman in the Navy go through a lot of training with the Marines especially when they go on deployment with them. A lot of those guys fight right along side the Marines, and the Marines have a great deal of respect for them (my grandpa who served in Korea as a Marine has talked about the corpsman before).

I also know that a lot of the corpsman in the medical building down in SC seem to have no idea what's going on...
Example: One of Aaron's buddies was involved in an "incident" the Wednesday before P.S. Grad. They were cleaning the room and he was holding a white board. They assumed it was cheap and made out of cardboard or something similiar. Wrong. Fiberglass. Another guy punched it and it shattered to pieces, cutting Aaron's friend's hand pretty badly. They ran over to medical... the corpsman came in, took one look and said let me go get the chief. Chief came in, took one look, said let me go get an officer. Officer came in and said "Well since the captain isn't here today, we're going to send you over to the hospital"
.....All he needed was stitches...

Mary, I am so glad you mentioned something about physical therapists.  When I was telling my 16 year old daughter that her brother was finally getting PT for his ankle, and he said it was just across the street from the Rickover, she said hey, I could be a physical therapist for the Navy.  I told her we didn't know for sure if they were military or civilian contractors.  Would be interesting to find out for sure.
