Well, Connie, I don't have a story like that to share about my son, but I can repeat one thing you said:  I would absolutely trust this kid when a nightmare goes down.  He'll be a good sailor and a good nuke.  Love that boy.  :)

He's often still a real smart a$$.

This is definitely an interesting group - our sailors are probably a reflection of their mommas and pappas - smart, opinionated, quirky, unique, creative and quietly but fiercely loyal.

Diana - Sure, Arrowhead Mall sounds great.  I will send you my phone number privately so you can give me a call when the big time comes.  Very exciting for you.

Connie, what an awesome tribute to your son! I hope all of our sailors will exhibit such character under pressure.
Comment by Connie foaling-lady (Groton) on March 9, 2011 at 11:32pm

For all my joking around, I'm not one bit worried about my son's ability to be calm and cool under pressure. Two years ago, when he was 16, we had to do an emergency C-section in the stall (no time to get to the clinic) on a dying mare. Dan was the one who reached inside and pulled out the baby. Then he kept the oxygen mask on that foal for 30 minutes and would not let me give up. When we got a heartbeat, he picked her up (140 pounds dead weight) and got her in the trailer, rode in the back with her head in his lap and held her down during her seizures. He was drenched in blood and smeared with guts. Got 1 hour of sleep and went to school that morning.  Today she is a beautiful healthy two-year-old. Proud of him? Man, I was in AWE of him. Nuke or no, whatever happens, I would absolutely trust this kid when a nightmare goes down.

BunkerQB:  I read and saw parenting styles in some of those leader styles.  The hard part is realizing/accepting that our boys/girls are adults and making adult decisions.  We still want to guide and protect but this is their show now.  We can support, pray, and bite our tongues.

Kat - when the baby comes I will try getting in touch with you.  Maybe we could meet at the mall at Bell & the 101.  Continue to enjoy your son!

I have to stand and say that our son not only has the smarts he also has more common sense than a lot of people we know. I must say, he is the whole package and we are very proud of him. He is an outside kind of guy, he isn't too much into video games and such. He would much rather be outside than inside and he likes to be busy. He loves to listen to his music and drive Big Red with Kelsey sitting next to him. See? Whole package! lol

OK, I have to stand up for my son.  He has smarts and most of the time he has a lot of common sense.  Not all of the time, but most of the time.

He would have been at that door rolling his eyes at anyone who didn't get it open the first time--even if that someone was himself.  ;)
