a french press makes coffee -- you put boiling water (heated in microwave) in it with coffee grounds and then press the inner plunger down to push down the grounds.  I don't drink coffee, but my DH does, so he uses one which makes about 2 cups of coffee.

Alright... What the heck is a french press?

Just another gift idea- A french press. My fiance, probably like most of the sailors here, lives on coffee but they can't have anything electronic in the room (except for an iron, go figure). I ended up getting this for him as a late Christmas gift and he's so excited.

Right after my son arrived in GC, I sent a box with laptop, cell, charger, some civies, etc -- cost about $60 since I insured it and sent it priority, but he got it in 2 days.

How to send them their cell phones when they first arrive at A School from boot camp?  The cell phone came home in the box.  I saw the Indoc mailing address but can you send them a cell phone to it?    How did other parents get the cell phone delivered to their student?  Thanks.

My son was in indoc for 2 weeks till stand down for the holidays, then 2 weeks leave, so a long stretch of freedom & reduced activity after the structure & demands of bc. I knew it would hit him hard when he came back. He knows all the benefits of doing well so I'm sure he'll get there. He has a couple of good buddies, and he is all over the r & r idea, has been counting down to the weekend and sleeping in! Thanks for the prayers, Jeanne - I think he will also do better when he finds a good place to worship. I'm trying not to be too pushy about that, I know he will look for it when he's ready.

Thanks for all the encouragement - I'll pass it on!

Nuke school is the most up and down rollercoaster ever, but when they're down, there's always an up right around the corner.

nvmomma- That sounds about at the point where Aaron was after the first week of A school. He'll get used to it. And hopefully his grades will go up, which will bring his study hours down. Tell him to go out with some friends this weekend and get some relaxation in. :)

nvmomma - my son is only a couple of weeks ahead of yours.  It will get better for several reasons.  One they adjust to the new routines just as they did in BC.  Two they make buddies who help them get through the rough spots.  And three our boys grow into men, capable of doing much more than we expect.  We need to be their cheering squad letting them know you believe in them and that they can do it.  I am cheering mine on and I know it will get better once he phases up.  It was just a rough dose of reality after Christmas holiday.
