My son's class just finished math and he said some of the kids failed. How does that work? Do they have to stay in A school longer until they pass math or could they eventually be out of the program?

Subway giftcards- GOOD.

Aaron's first few weeks there I'm not sure he even made it to the chow hall for lunch... he ran on coffee. After I told him how unhealthy that was and after he started complaining about his six pack from boot being gone, he started finding his way to Subway. I'm still not sure he knows where the gym his. ;) And Aaron complained about having to buy stuff to settle into his room too, but he reminded himself that most of those things were one time purchases that can move with him from place to place.

Don't worry too much, SailorMom. Your son will more than likely find his place with a few buddies soon. :)

For my family I am insisting they all wear nice pants and button up shirt as if going to a casual wedding. I will wear a dress. As stated before they will be in their dress uniforms and I am old fashioned as to proper attire. I'll be there Sept 3rd for Power School graduation with my husband and my sailors two other brothers (he paid for his brothers to attend.) My husband and I attended his A school graduation in Feb.. It snowed that night about 6 inches a somewhat rare event for the area and hope we won't be experiencing any 'rare' weather this time.

My son TJ had his PIR this past Friday and was a grad-&-go to Charleston. He's on liberty now, and has had so much fun (LOL) getting his room ready and shopping for whatever he needs. I think school starts next Wednesday, but I'm not sure. I know he's looking forward to the challenge of nuke school. I'm wishing him and all his buddies good luck.

Dor, Dress shorts for males would be perfect! About 15 min before the ceremony begins, the sailors are called to attention. They are in a semi-circle behind the audience, lined up according to section. Very easy to get pictures. Also when they receive their certificates, you are encouraged to come up very close to the stage for pictures. The CO pauses when shaking their hand so you can get a great picture. If I were you, yes, I'd start packing right now!!!!!!!!

Hi Dor, Casual really means casual! Especially when it is so hot! We didn't see anyone in a suit.

Shadow boxes are the coolest thing... My grandpa served in Korea as a Marine, and for Christmas several years back my uncle managed to get in contact with the Marine that drug my grandpa off the field after he had been shot. That Marine saved my grandpa's life and now that he's gone, his shadow box, including the Purple Heart he received for saving my grandpa, sits in my grandparent's living room. I'm mesmerized by the picture of the Marine every time I see it...

They are a littel worn out, but you bet I saved those letters! And they are funny. Pat, we are just now collecting all his band and tech ed ribbons and medals and putting them in shadow boxes. Someday he will want those and his trophies.

Kate, You bet, I saved every one of his letters. Found a really cool scrapbook with the Navy seal on the front. I put every letter, program, and picture in it. Hoping he will appreciate it in the future.

Kris--when I grew up, there wasn't the barrage of media surrounding everything. Celebrities were not "heroes." Matter of fact, we hardly heard anything about people in the press like now. Viet Nam was just beginning to make news. And, we were limited to our indoor time. We used our imagination and played outside.

so, when it was time to "join" the world in college, we spent a lot of time making relationships and a lot of time in the library because there was no internet.

Was life easier? I don't know. But I would not have given it up for anything in the world. I worked hard and late (restaurant manager and college.) Didn't have time to get into trouble.

However, I would never give up my computer now for the friendships of my military moms. I fast one day a month from it, and try to stay away from it late at night. things have changed. Our kids seem to grow up faster.

So, now I'm done with my rambling on.
