BJM46, Sorry to here that your son is having trouble with his tests. Make sure he seeks out the instructors for help. Tell him not to get discouraged. Maybe the instructor could suggest another student to mentor him. It is important that he understands the material from the beginning because often times it builds on prior concepts. He may need to learn a new way to study. How were his study habbits in HIgh School? I recommend that everynight he reviews the material from the prior day and what he does not understand he seeks out the Instructor. In these programs you need to study all along to be successful. It is not longer High School. I wish him the best.

talked to my son for a few minutes last night...he's kinda bummed out cause he hasn't done so good on a couple of his tests...he said he failed the mechanical one?
I'm afraid he's going to get discouraged and I feel bad for him.

Talia, best advice at this point: be patient AND flexible. My son waited 10months for a NUKE spot to open up. He finished boot camp at Great Lakes last Friday and arrived in Goose Creek for A school on Saturday. He has no idea when his classes will start. He's just waiting and enjoying his down time. One other piece of advice: enjoy EVERY MINUTE with your son now. Once at GL there's very little communication!

My boyfriend leaves for boot camp in Great Lakes next Monday. I feel like there is so much that we don't know about when we move to Goose Creek. HELP! Lol!

Dan's mom - Thanks so much for your insight. My son has a twin sister, and they chat on facebook. Before he started school, I would email him and he would respond, but he didn't call - maybe he's waiting for his cell phone. I think my biggest fear is losing touch, so I appriciate your tips on how to keep connected without being a pest.

My son arrived in Goose Creek last Sunday, and he is supposed to start his "A" school for MM today. I know he will be busy, but I hope he keeps in touch.

Mary - please make sure you post after your visit. My son is stationed in Groton. We are planning on going to visit him - probably the week after you to go BS. I am hoping we will be able to spend a couple days in NYC. I went with my son and his choir when he was in high school twice, then once with my sisters. I am really anxious for my husband to go and think it would be fun for my son to be with us. Have you ever been before - ever one needs to go at least once. Good luck.

Mary, fantastic. If my house was nearby I would invite him over for a big ribeye steak.

What airline do the new nukes usually fly when coming from O'Hare (PIR) to Charleston/GC?
Comment by LLovesmysailor on May 17, 2010 at 3:23pm
talia, I'm not sure what you want to know about the Nuke program. It is a great group of very intelligent sailors. They spend approximately 18 months getting qualified before they join the fleet. Then they serve on either an aircraft carrier or one of 3 types of submarines.
