B'sNuke, so glad you had a nice visit with Dad AND Secretary Mattis! Woot! That's so cool, and you got to lobby for N4Ms. Nice. ProudOfK, I also had the rare treat of meeting B'sNuke on a couple of occasions. I've said it before. B'sNuke is a rock star and the glue that holds this motley crew together. I hope the 3rd mom lets us know when she joins us here. I love this site and one of our strengths is the number of people that can share their experiences. Meeting each other, when possible, is a joyful thing. We truly are a family.

My sailor got a chuckle when I shared JayDee's post about meeting the youngster heading soon to boot camp who said he had never met an actual nuke before, or something to that effect, like they are mythical beasts. He said nobody sees much of nukes. Where they work means people just don't run into them. I don't know about the other rates but for nukes their friends are all other nukes.

B'sNukeMom VERY COOL!

Comment by Nursemom on August 5, 2018 at 9:06am

My sailor finally starts A school tomorrow. He mentioned he applied to be class leader and if all goes well he wants to apply for officer school at the Academy. Is this realistic and achievable? If so, what kind of advice can I pass on to him? Thank you!

B'sNukeMom -I totally enjoyed our little meet up.  Little bit jealous that I live here and haven't met Mattis but you're in town for 3 days - but only a little - I actually think it's very cool.

And I saw in our local paper that while the 3 of us nuke moms were in Prosser, Mattis was enjoying our local doughnut shop that I guess is a favorite of his - they do have really good donuts.

Also I understand even more now how much thanks goes to B'sNukeMom and all her energy that this site is available and keeps so active.  Thank you B'sNukeMom!

And today my dad took us to meet General Mattis - Secretary of Defense!  He was visiting the local tavern in Prosser and my dad got a call from one of Mattis’ friends who is also a friend of his and we went over & hung out. Very cool!  I even talked to him about our N4M website and we talked about the new deployment schedules. Very nice man and totally relatable. Here we all are-my dad is wearing his USS Boxer hat.

Hey everyone - just wanted to check in real quick. I’m still in Prosser - having a great time. I did meet up with ProudofK and another nuke mom (who isn’t on here but hopefully will be joining) and we had a wonderful visit! It’s always so much fun getting to spend time with fellow Navy Moms ;-D Here we are:

And of course it was RED shirt Friday!

Buzzbeck - "it's because Nukes don't talk" - lol - I just  have to tell a story on my nuke from 4th grade.  About 2/3 of the way through the school year we had to pick him up at school and they were out on the playground.  So as we were walking with him one of his female classmates came up to us and said "does he talk?".  She'd been in the same class with him for 6 or 7 months and was asking this - lol.  He does talk more now than he did then and with the right people on the right topic can definitely talk your ear off - but I think Mr. Buzzbeck has something there.

Comment by JayDee659 on August 3, 2018 at 8:26am

Buzzbeck, that's awesome!  Your husband has a great sense of humor.  Mine is pretty quiet until she warms up, then watch out.

Comment by Chipmunk on August 3, 2018 at 7:37am

Buzzbeck - LOL! On the other hand, he hasn't met my son!Who called yesterday very ecstatic over his high test score. Can't wait to see him soon.
