Boy could I use some sea sisters tonight. Heard some disturbing things about sub life. I cant talk specifics, but I am very upset. I just hope it gets better. My sailor really isn't a complainer. It took him.a month to talk about it. I knew there was something really wrong. My heart is hurting.

I accidentally deleted my post. Sometimes I hate phones. lol

PacNWmom - That sounds fun. I knit and crochet. I've cross stitched in the past, so fun. What part of the coast you going to?

Heard from my Nuke yesterday. He's loves Prototype so far, he's still in the initial 7wks. He's told me he's considering subs instead of boats. Hmm... Would be interesting.

PacNWmom I cross stitch also. Wish I didn't live across the country as I also enjoy beer!  My husband worked several incidents in Oregon, near Tillamook. He said it was beautiful country.

My daughter is decent with communication but can be a little too vague. She takes OPSEC very seriously so we've had to come up with codes.  One example is a snapchat of something specific means "leaving on underway". A lot of times they're on duty before the ship leaves, to start the reactor, so they don't get time to call before they pull out.

Oh, I forgot to mention, Branson would be a hike for me, but given the right timing I'm there!!

As some of you may remember, I belong to a meetup group called Pints & Crafts. We meet on Thursday evenings to drink beer and do our crafts (most people knit, some crochet, I cross-stitch). Twice a year we head to the Oregon coast for a long weekend (notice in the NW it's called the "coast", not the "beach"). This is the weekend! I, along with 29 other crafty ladies are taking over 2 neighboring houses for a 4 day weekend. It's going to be so much quieter there than it's been in my house this week! I'll blow kisses to all the sailors out in the Pacific while I'm there!

Love to all my sea sisters! This has been a hard week for me, emotionally. Thanks for helping see me through! mwah!

I wanted to check in and say hello. No news from my son (no big surprise there). JayDee, I was heartened to hear your daughter's communication strategy; Call before an underway, then again on while driving home. That sounds *exactly* like what my son will do when he gets to that point.

I don't know if I've mentioned on here, but I'm in the midst of a big kitchen remodel. I'm about 2.5 months in and the banging and sanding almost drove me crazy today! Luckily we're to the point where I can really see and appreciate the progress. Cabinets, countertops and flooring are in and look great! Today they started refinishing the upstairs softwood floors, while the contractor worked on trim in the kitchen. I couldn't even do my laundry because they had tapped into that plug for the big power sander. Wish I could invite y'all to the party I'll have over the summer once it's all done! Those in the PNW may get an invite! :D

I want to thank everyone on this forum for such an enormous amount of support and information. My son's PIR was 30 March and has been at GC now for 10 days.  It was definitely tough not seeing him everyday, but at least being able to text has Benin wonderful.  I know he has a long what to go, but I hope to get to know a few of you great Nuke Moms along the way. Oh! and BTW, Branson is totally doable!

JayDee659 - we will be driving the car down to our son next month. Just trying to make sure we do it the correct way. One friend of mine (retired Air Force) mentioned a P.O.A. issued by dad to son so there would be no issues/hassles. if I understood my insurance agent correctly we can keep him listed (no issue). There is even a military clause since he doesn't qualify as a student.

congrats to all those headed to PIR!!

Jdubyasmom I personally don't think that it gets easier I honestly think that as moms er get stronger. My daughter is on a carrier and I got weekly calls and emails while she was deployed. There were some periods of silence but not for too long. She doesn't usually communicate during undereays but I think she's pretty busy during those times. Generally she will call me a day or two before they go out and then on her drive home when they return.
