Freebird my daughter got  her car in the middle of A School. She was really generous about running the kids without cars and many are willing to help out those without wheels.  There is no right or wrong answer, it's what is best for your sailor.

Mine didn't get his car until he was heading to Prototype!  We shipped it to him about a month before he left for NY.

Comment by Freebird on April 9, 2018 at 7:04pm

Ok, so how many sailors have cars at A-school?  Keep telling mine he does not need a car until he starts Power school, but not going over well.

Hammer, that is where we usually stayed. Not the cheapest, but good location, clean, comfortable, all nonsmoking. Right off the interstate. The only problem is the left turn leaving the Charleston Southern campus going out toward GC. Allow a few extra minutes at peak traffic.

I stayed at Villas too. Very handy for sailor, and large enough that I could have accommodated more people. Looking back I could have asked my ex since he came alone and I had 2 bedrooms. Another family there for grad was a nuke mom I connected with here (still around mommajo?) who also stayed at the Villas. We met up and we had a BBQ on their patio. Villas are dated but clean and well-supplied. You have a kitchen and laundry, can watch TV, dining room. I would recommend.

Planning my first trip to Goose Creek to bring my sailor his car in June. Anyone ever stay at the Wingate by Wyndham in Charleston?

Eyes are doing fine. Will still need correction due to severe astigmatism so I will see Optometrist this week and go from there. I will go glasses at first and hopefully when the eyes are fully healed go to contacts. Getting older (I refuse to say old just yet) sucks.

Counting down days now for the end of deployment. DIL is trying to plan homecoming. As many of you know, nukes are generally first on, last off. Since this is his last homecoming she is hoping to give the kids a taste of it. Our 10-yr-old should remember someday, and maybe the 5yo, She hopes my son can give her a general time when he will disembark, if that's the correct term. Yeehaw, this mama can hardly wait!

Here's the phone # for the Foster Creek Villas (on base): 843.794.2120.  Usually your sailor will have to make the reservation but I know some parents have got lucky & been able to book it themselves.  They have 1, 2 & 3 bedrooms available.

Here's an updated website:

https://www.jbcharleston.com/lodging/foster-creek/

I also updated it in the Hotels, villas, other places to book for a visit discussion in the discussion forum above.

Hi all - Happy Monday!

Haha - the squirrel story is funny - can just imagine the little guy running around!

NancyJo - how you doing?  Seeing things clearly now?

We did more packing & cleaning at my mom's this weekend.  Managed to "twinge" my lower back.  I guess I can't complain too much since I've managed to go over a month without hurting it lol.  I just hope it's better by the weekend for my nephews wedding.  B flies in Thursday night, I'm so excited.

The air show was this weekend at March Air Base - we were heading to my moms and stopped at Costco to get gas. While we were there the B2 Stealth Bomber flew directly overhead.  It was so awesome!  It's amazing how massive it is.

Chipmunk - Hopefully you got to see a little more of the area where they live, etc.  When we visited for A school grad B took us up to his room.  Dad was able to go inside but I wasn't allowed - no females were allowed in the rooms - but I was able to look in the doorway.

While my son was at school, he didn't want things sent to him because the easiest way to keep his room clean was to avoid clutter.  Anything sent to him had to be stowed away somewhere.  Just my experience.  :)  And that only applies at school - deployment is something different.
