Mary - Is your son staying at GC or going to BS for prototype?  Don't know if it has changed, but my son had to be out of the dorms within a couple hours after power school graduation.  There were only so many vacuums and the rooms had to be inspected before they could leave. We did go to the graduation, but ended up waiting quite a while for him to finish up.  There is no way he would have made a 1:00 flight.  Plus..even though the graduation was scheduled to start at 9:00 the speaker was late, so the ceremony was about an hour late getting started.  I hope for him everything goes well, but there is always that possiblity that they won't.

:-)   I am hoping that she gets the transfer.  She has been working for one of the stores almost 2 yrs, so if they have an opening, I think she has a chance.  Even if that job is only a few hours, may be worth doing for the continuity.  Also, something that she would at least be a bit comfortable with, as she knows the product from both the sales floor and inventory/stocking.  I give her kudos for trying to figure it out ahead of time.   I think she is just stressing and is used to being in control of her own situations. Now she is jumping into the unknown

No suggestions from me. hahaha. I, too, would go stir crazy with no job and no kids. Have her search for groups of wives on Facebook from Charleston as a way to meet people. A lot of them have tons of different get togethers and picnics. Plus, base housing (BB) offers a lot of different get togethers for the people who live there. Classes and such. Have her check out this facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/181091178612069/

Honestly, a job is a GREAT way to pass time and earn extra spending money. And I bet I know what outlets you're talking about... I've heard nothing but good things about them. :)  But if working weekends is a big downer for her, then she may have to spend a little extra time finding a job that would work for her. It is possible. There are wives who have done it. :)

OR, she could take college classes. There are several options close to base to do so. :)

Emily, Pretty sure that DIL will work retail, she has done so for 2-3 yrs and I think she will work to keep herself busy.  But it is an interesting concept for her to be able to choose whether to work and thus be gone some weekends, or not work at all because she will have Base Housing and may not need to monetarily.  When that is the situation, I think it is fair to weigh the options.  She has had to work, and worked really hard since her Senior High School year.  She didn't think that she would be able to join SR while he was at Nuke school unless the two of them paid, until you actually let me know otherwise.  Now, she is coming to reality that she also will be leaving hometown (3mos from now).  I think she is really lucky that the store she now works for actually has a Factory Outlet near GC.  Time to weigh her choices, and think it thru before she moves.

If she chooses not to work, are there suggestions as to what she should do during the week?  They have no children and she would go absolutely stir-crazy at first if SR was always gone and she had no work and no friends yet.

Has anyone purchased the sea to shining sea cookbook? Did you like it. What edition is the best? The profits benefit different  Navy fundraisers. I was going to order some but wanted to know  some input before I decide how many and which edition.
