We booked a flight and then things changed and Alaska Airlines doesn't make active duty military pay the penalty to change. It doesn't hurt to ask any of the airlines.

William, my son learned the hard way that even if you have heard it from your chief don't book a flight unless you have it in writing.  Time of day or date of leave may change if it is verbal but if it is in writing you can "take it to the airport."  :)

I can tell you this, Diego is fighting for his self and I am very proud of him. Not sure how things will work out, but he is truly not a quitter. He should be given more respect for fighting for his job than looked upon differently. Most people just accept things as they are, but we have alwaus taught our children to do what it takes and do it to the best of your ability. He is doing what he can and with prayers he will do well.

We are in Goose Creek right now, arrived on Friday and we will be here until Saturday. We are loving every minute here with them and the weather has been wonderful. Hot, but wonderful. We spent all day and evening in Charleston yesterday, will be going back on Thursday. Kevin and I will take a carriage tour around the city while the girls shop. They even have ghost tours, but won't be taking one this time although I would love to. lol

There has been good to be here, give support as well as wisdom. We can't make any decisions for them, but as pa and ma it is always good to be with them! Keep us in prayers please....................we know we have an awesome God!!

Okay, here goes... I am going to have coffee, tea, cookies etc. at MY HOUSE in Richardson, TX on Saturday, July 16th. It will be come as you are, but you have to bring a photo of your SAILOR/Recruit!  If you want to bring cookies too, that would be wonderful!

I have wanted to get together again since the Navy Dads included us in their breakfast in Grapevine... but it always seems so difficult to plan a location! So now, I am committed (maybe I should be committed?).  PM me if you want to come and I will give you my address.  God Bless, can't wait to meet everybody! Navy Mom Hugs!

Time: 2PM to 5PM Saturday, July 16th

Sharon, I hope everything works out for Diego, I am glad your family had a chance to visit him over the weekend.
Comment by William in Nashua on July 5, 2011 at 3:37pm

My son already knows his A school graduation date which is August 12, and the dates of his leave, he got that info from the Chief.   So he should be able to book the airline tickets further in advance this time, and so should be much cheaper.  I am not complaining though about the prices though, Lol.  I was very grateful to his Chief that he was issued liberty travel chit this last weekend to come home and visit us in New Hampshire, which is 1,000 miles from the school, we had a wonderful time, we made sure he was back on base Monday afternoon.      I would recommend they call the airline and get the military rate and those tickets early, and get on first flight of the morning out of an airport.

I don't often do this, but unemployment amongst our veteran's is a huge problem.  Please do a little research and find out about this legislation and what we can do to help:  http://apps.facebook.com/takeactioncenter/vet/ProudToServe

That's awesome if they still have it!
I had just heard that NNPTC did away with it. But could just have been a rumor :)
Comment by Jo1 on July 5, 2011 at 2:45pm
My sons recruiters office still has sailors working in their office for extra leave time.  When my son left for boot camp in April the office had two sailors in the office doing that.
Comment by Kat (MM Nuke) on July 5, 2011 at 2:36pm
Emily, my son was just talking about doing that the other day, so they may still have it if he says it's possible.  He was going to check into it for after power school in October.  We'll see.
