OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Comment by amanda on May 11, 2011 at 11:18am: binker- 30 days leave after Prototype. About 2 weeks after power. Except, my husband just got on hold for 2 months to start Prototype and Chief encouraged them to take leave (up to 2 weeks) during this time. So it is possible to get up to a month after Power if the cards play right.

And, now my husband might be able to come up for my College graduation! Which I never thought was even possible :) big smiles over here if he actually can get that approved! Then I'll be flying back with him instead of saying goodbye for once!

Nuke A School FAQ My son wanted ET also, and he got it, but found himself in the same class as EMs when he got to A school. Turns out their curriculum is exactly the same for the majority of A School.

as long as it was a small (although major) infraction that didnt involve his integrity, he should be okay. That's why drunk driving almost always results in being kicked out of the program--its a question of integrity and that must be unquestionable when dealing with nukes. That was what it was like when I was going through my muke program 20 years ago. Amazing since I'm going to be 30 on Monday!

Tell him to just take it like a man or a wo-man. Be strong. Let this be a learning experience for him. Tell him to show his strength of character by aknowledging his mistake and planning for how to avoid that situation again.

I'm just waiting for June 17 so BOTH my nukes are finished. At least they havent run off and got married yet! They get 30 days after power school?

Comment by Binker & Bro: 2X Nuke Mom on May 11, 2011 at 10:08am: Labmom-my Binker flew home for Labor Day weekend--he got permission to go outside the required zone by submitting a chit to his commander. You could try that. If you decide to go down, I always stay at the Ramada on Ashley Phosphate because it is close to the base and I was able to negotiate a NavyMoms rate. If you ask for it the price is $59. The good part for you is they allow pets. And they have two swimming pools and a very good breakfast considering. Its dated but I have never had any complaints. If you stay 5 nights, you get one free.

Maybe that will help.

I havent havd time yet, but if your daughter is a writer and she sent losts of letters, you could compile them into a book-type memento. Bink actually wrote me a two page letter every night so I am going to write a real book with his letters and the letters that were sent to him.

Comment by mommajo on May 11, 2011 at 9:38am: Wow, Just reading back over the last day and so many emotions...Remembering the airport visit at O'Hare and how wonderful it was to see my son. Yes, one of the first things he wanted was HIS shoes; the BC ones were hard on his feet! Second was underwear :)

The mother's worry that he will make a poor choice and loose this wonderful opportunity. Diana, prayers for your son. I, too, have heard that masts are hard on the individual but can be an opportunity for growth. I worried that my son said that so if he ever got masted I wouldn't think it was the end of the world; but seems to be true.

Class 1102--only 5 weeks left. It seems life moves fast in the Navy; not that long ago he was cleaning and waiting for A school.

Rain mixed with snow today. Hope it doesn't warm too quickly or we'll have to worry about flooding.

Comment by Andi6109 on May 11, 2011 at 9:35am: Diana my boyfriend was in a similar situation a few weeks back. he didn't get sent to mast, but he could have. it was a misunderstanding that got blown out of proportion and his only consequence was that he dropped phases. he got VERY lucky and fully realized that and has minded his P's and Q's since then.

BTW everyone, I changed my name on here, so it's not confusing, since today is MOVING DAY!!! I am no longer SC_bound as I will finally be in South Carolina by this evening and hopefully settled by tomorrow! Packing the last few days has not been fun and i am dredding the unpacking tomorrow

I learn something new everytime I look back at it.. and my sailor has been doing this for a year and a half!
Aaron is an EM, also. Here's what the paper had to say: Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and control of all the electrical power systems associated with the Reactor. Stands moving and stationary watches mointoring the various Electrical Distribution systems.
As the guys say: They "flip switches"

I also found this for all those moms who are wondering what the "needs of the Navy" are. It said this directly on the file that's in the discussion I mentioned to Jo1. "Needs of the Navy: 50% MMs, 30% EMs, and 20% ETs"
It says rate is determined by "Personal Choice, Test Scores, and the Needs of the Navy"
