Cleaning stories! Wow! Where do I begin. My oldest left on 12/7 for BC. A couple of weeks before he left he pretty much cleaned out what he wanted and didn't want. Was a great help to me. Some of the old ratty t-shirts I would of definitely got rid of. But, he wanted them! A week after he got to GC I paid him a visit and brought all his civi's with me. He was so happy to get that huge bin of clothes! Oh, and his skateboard, tv, and x-box!!
My youngest is leaving for BC on 4/14. We'll have an empty nest! He just cleaned out his room. Got rid of so much stuff also. He just has to get all his x-box gear in order because I have no idea what all the wires and hook-ups mean! He told me he'll do it and that he doesn't want me to touch it. He'll be going to Pensacola for his A-school (CRT).
My husband and I have been doing lots of cleaning also. We are putting our house on the market in a couple of days. Right now I'm excited about it. But, I'm sure once it sells and we have to move it will be a pretty sad time. Lots of great memories in this little house!! We live in Conover, NC and hope to be moving to FL. Not sure where yet though. Hopefully it doesn't take a very long time to sell. It's a beautiful little house. Move-in condition. Anyone interested? LOL!!!!
Oh, and a quick question for you ladies. Does your son/daughter call you on a regular basis? Mine barely does!! It's so hard because he lived at home right up until he left. I always knew where he was. Now it's so different. But, I do understand he's busy and all. But, gees!!!! My husband told me I need to totally cut the apron strings!! I know he's right, but, boy it's hard!!
Diana, love the tough love vs. mushy love comment. We gave our son the tough love when he was home, and now he can get the mushy love!
Well, I have to take something I said back. Since my son found out that his uncle wants him to be an usher at his wedding in October, my son said he'd prefer to wear his dress blues instead of spending the money to rent a tux. I think it's a combination of him being more comfortable wearing his dress blues a lot (well, at least at GC) and not wanting to spend the money to rent a tux. He's definitely carrying on mom and pop's thriftiness!
I must be the weirdest mom here--Before my son left for BC he went and bought a bunch of those big plastic storage bins to sort and store his stuff--It upset me-had to ask him "why are you doing all that? You're coming back!" He's my youngest-hard to let go.
Navymomx3-My sons broken TKD boards are safe here too! Along with each framed belt certificate hanging on the wall.
Kate-You are a Nuke Mom-no need to go AWOL :)
WOW...reading all the posts for the day and they are so relevant. I cleaned my son's room right after he left for boot camp. I told him he had to do all his laundry and straighten it up. THen I went in with the heavy guns and cleaned it the way I always hoped it would be. Now there are still some clothes there, that way when he comes home on leave he doesn't always have to bring everything. I left the sports momentos and organized his stuff. Threw away some stuff, not much. It doubles as a guest room and his room. You can still clearly see it's his room.
Just to put my two cents in...I hope no one leaves this group. I don't plan on it!
