sjmom - I am with JayDee659 - look for something like Cracker Barrel - be sure to check out the Visitor Bureau sites and call them as well. - Yes, our son's 21st birthday celebration is going to be very expensive, since we are driving. And B'sNukeMom - I so want to be a part of Fleet Week after the things I have heard here, but convincing our sailor that the amusement parks are going to still be there, especially in iffy weather - that is another story, But one way or another my friend is making dinner and a birthday cake!!
MoMom - I wish I could take you with us!! We will have to plan a trip ourselves.
Sjmom, we also rid Thanksgiving in GC. We couldn't afford the expensive buffets so we opted for Cracker Barrel. We had a 40 minute wait but sat on the porch rockers and enjoyed visiting with our Nuke.
Chipmunk - Fleet Week is awesome! My husband and I have been fortunate enough to attend in San Diego. If you get a chance to go definitely do it - you will be amazed! And yes, you can tour ships.
We are staying at the Holiday Inn. The things we do for our kids because we love them.
Welcome to our newest member ~ triciab! Please be sure to read the ***NEW MEMBERS*** info at the top of the page. Lots of good info there. Also take a look at the Pages (18) to the right under the member profiles - be sure to hit "view all". And of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have.
sjmom - I found this but it's from 2017. Might be worth calling a few of them to see what's available:
The other option is if you are staying at the Villas you can cook your own meal. The Villas do book up fast though and your sailor has to make the reservation.
Hi all - Happy Wednesday!
potterycat - sending you big hugs as you begin this journey! Is she actually leaving this week/today/tomorrow? If so keep your phone close by - you will get the "I'm here" call later and it will be quick - maybe 30 seconds. You should get a couple of calls (maybe more if you are lucky) while she's at BC. Answer your phone no matter what! But do remember that no news is good news! The boot camp group will be able to answer most of your questions, and once you get the official form letter (9-14 business days) then you'll know her PIR date and can join the group for that. You might be looking at a 12/6 PIR but it could be a week either way. Don't make any plans until you receive that letter though! As far as Christmas it's hard to say - she won't know until she gets to GC - but not everyone gets time off. Just plan on being flexible!
New Adventures - the bonuses are spread out and I don't remember when they get them. Maybe someone who has dealt with this more recently will chime in for you.
sjmom - We're traveling from WI to GC for Thanksgiving (driving). Will be following the comments for the same recommendations. We ended up getting McDonald's last year because of poor planning lol.
Our son really wanted us to come from Iowa to South Carolina for Thanksgiving, so we are going (it cost an arm and a leg) because he really wanted us there. Any suggestions for restaurants for Thanksgiving dinner?
