NancyJo, I agree about deployments.  When they were assigned their first duty station, my daughter's ship was on deployment so her husband had to handle the homefront alone.  Even after she got home the 90 days underway turned into over 180, so he was still on his own quite a bit.  Of course being Navy they keep busy.

JayDee, Hahaha! Hedgehogs are kind kind of stupid. My daughter had one once. She loved him but not as fun as a dog.

I bet your daughter isn't looking forward to hubby's deployment. I've said this before: deployment sucks.

B'sNukeMom, I'm glad you're back in balance!  I also have vertigo but mine is horizontal. It is triggered by looking back and forth quickly, think scanning a grocery shelf.

My Nuke-in-Law is looking at a coming deployment. Although the Navy has kept my daughter and her husband in the same port, but when she's out, he's in and vice versa.  They have been getting in some quality time together despite all the people who seem to board at their house :).  Did I tell you that they got a hedgehog?  His name is Morty and while he's adorable he doesn't seem to bright.

COTwin, so happy when you check in! I love your ex-Nuke's plan. There is definitely life after the navy. You can be so proud of your boys!

B'sNuke, vertigo is awful. My brother has suffered from Meniere's and the vertigo was miserable. Glad you are feeling better.

Just a peek for you all on life after their nuke service. I am so happy that mine came out with a plan for his future.

Update on my nuke/now college student.  He started at CU and he will be focusing on Physics, Oceanography and Atmospheric sciences. He will be interning at NOAA next year and when he has the degree he wants will be working there to finish out serving 12 years or so for retirement.

bigsky21 - Glad to hear the birth certificate arrived in a timely manner!

Comment by bigsky21 on August 13, 2019 at 3:35pm

Hey all,

In case anyone else has to send mail to Pearl, I had to send my son’s birth certificate ASAP and I ended up using priority mail. I mailed on a Friday and it was guaranteed Monday delivery - the crazy thing was, I checked the tracking on Sunday to see where it was and it had actually reached Honolulu Saturday morning, all the way from Florida on a Friday afternoon! It delivered to the base post office on Monday, and my son had it Tuesday. Not too bad!! Be sure to waive the signature requirement if you use this service.

He’s still waiting for his sub to get back to Pearl, they left before he got there and haven’t returned yet so he’s basically doing a bunch of paperwork right now....and getting to see a little bit of Hawaii.

Glad you’re feeling better today BsNukeMom, vertigo is no fun!

I keep meaning to check on the shingles shot - it's on my to do list.  I should probably bump that up on the list lol!

Comment by Chipmunk on August 13, 2019 at 3:21pm

B'sNukeMom - sorry to hear you were having issues with vertigo yesterday. My mother had similar things and I know it was not fun. I had the first of my shingles shot yesterday and they told me it would be sore and I could have flu, or cold like symptoms or a bad headache. Not sure the headache isn't from the weather change, went from 107' yesterday to rain and 77' but it is climbing back up and the sun is out. My arm is still sore. Next time it goes in the other arm, even if that is not the one I use as often!

Yes, all of our catch phrases on here have become a constant litany in my life as of lately.
