And yes, Hammer - be prepared for less communication - it will prepare you for Prototype when you may never know what their work schedule is.

Comment by Chipmunk on April 22, 2019 at 6:06pm

The Hammer - I think that is wonderful that you are able to get a beach house and spend your sailors leave time out there with him. I hear things are changing around some at NNPTC as to when the sailors are getting their apartments - so those of you later in the pipeline will need to be able to share your experiences as well.

B'sMom - so as normal dates have changed with my sailor's orders. But from what he shared earlier today, he doesn't really have any more time to figure everything out with his new work schedule. He should still have his month transport time off and so we are hopeful that means he can actually go with the family to visit his oldest sister and BIL before they head oversees.

I think I added some info to Prototype Graduation, & sight seeing discussion as well, yesterday.

B’sNukeMoM - not at all! Anytime we find a new place to eat or visit I like to share.

The Hammer - our sailor just graduated Power School. It was almost complete silence for us the last two months before graduation due to constant exams and prepping for comp. Not sure it will be that way for your sailor but just be ready.

Chipmunk - our sailor dragged his feet when we left too. I think he wanted us to stay longer but wouldn’t come out and say it. I have teared up each time but haven’t balled like a baby. I know that will happen the day he goes to fleet.

NMH to everyone on this sight. Thank you so much for your support and insight!

SubMom - I hope you don't mind - I added your restaurant recommendations up above to the Sightseeing in Charleston discussion ;-D

Happy Earth Day!

Comment by The Hammer on April 22, 2019 at 11:48am

Chipmunk - My sailor is in PS... with planned grad date of 6/7. We talk about once a week and it seems that lately they are all stressing as the material is getting more intense. He's looking at houses and apartments with a bunch of his friends and just buckling down. We have planned a nice trip out for graduation and rented a beach house on Folly beach... can't wait! Your post just struck home with me as I try not to think about how much I miss him (still brings tears to my eyes every time). The main thing that this site has taught me is that everyone goes thru the same and to be as supportive as we can... and I am very grateful!

Happy Monday!

Chipmunk - sounds like you had a wonderful time with your son! Now he's ready for the fleet ;-D  Is he getting 30 days leave?

I love all the restaurant suggestions - I swear my hubby and I are going to have to plan another trip to Charleston so we can visit some more of these places.

SuzyQ - when is your son's PIR?

Comment by Chipmunk on April 22, 2019 at 9:49am

The Hammer - Thank you!! Up to this point, I have had my emotional guard up - "he is just in school" - and I could treat it as if my kids were just off to college. Now, it gets real!!

How is your sailor? - I have lost track of where he is at in the entire process.

Comment by The Hammer on April 22, 2019 at 6:40am

Chipmunk... I can totally relate to having a hard time saying goodbye. Hang in there mama!!!

Comment by Chipmunk on April 21, 2019 at 9:00pm

Going through the Smokey Mtns. in the dark was not my plan when we decided to take the northern scenic route home!! But it was good to attend Easter service with our sailor and eat lunch. He just didn't have the same sense of urgency for us to get on the road as we did, so packing some of his items to bring home took a little longer. And saying good bye might be easier in one way, but it seems like it is getting harder for this mom.
