Welcome to our newest members ~ Cynbla74, Kerriknowz and Kuhl!  Please be sure to read the ***NEW MEMBERS*** info at the top of the page.  The Rating Information Card for NF is especially helpful.  Also be sure to read the Pages (17) to the right under the member profiles.  Lots of good info there.  And of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Hi all - Happy Thursday!  I'm back from Vegas - had a nice relaxing time - it was good to get away for a few days.  Now it's play catch up at work lol!

NancyJo - The flooding in your area is heartbreaking.  I saw a little of it on the news - it's devastating.  I'm glad you are safe but praying for others in the area.  And you too CSW - I saw Iowa is experiencing flooding too.  It's sad what is happening.

I think all sailors should get their passport (and really, everyone should get one).  You never know when you might want to travel last minute.

JayDee - so glad you had fun with your Navy mom visit.  I'm jealous!  I saw some of your pics on FB - looks like you both had a great time!

Definitely no news is good news!

Happy Spring! (Pardon the grammar.)  Just got home from Vegas - I’ll catch up with everyone tomorrow.

Finally...boots in the house about 1:00 this morning. Looking forward to a nice visit before he heads off to the fleet.

I see. Good information.

Yes, CSW, the whole midwest is impacted. My daughter has a friend in western Iowa whose business is flipping homes. Due to flooding these people are in one of their properties with 1 bedroom with a loft, 1 bathroom, and their 8 children. Then the mom's mother's house flooded and she moved in too. My daughter (her husband is ex-nuke) offered a room but the mother decided it's too far to drive to work. In disasters everybody makes do.

SubMom, I'm curious about being sent to Norfolk. There is no prototype in Norfolk so if he is sent there it might just be a short term thing. Interesting.

The ComSubPac/NSSC Pearl Harbor page says:
"Passports are required for all service members reporting to a submarine [at Pearl] and, if possible, should be acquired prior to transfer.  Though not required, passports are recommend [sic] for all family members have passports to allow for travel to foreign ports and the mainland uninhibited."

You don't need a passport to go to Hawaii. I think you do need one for Guam. They are expensive but good for 10 years.

I was amazed how much our expenses dropped when our boys became self-sufficient. International travel is cheaper than feeding teens and young adults.

Comment by NancyJo (NNPTC) on March 20, 2019 at 1:38pm

CSW, you need a passport to go to Hawaii? How are you limited?

Comment by CSW on March 20, 2019 at 11:57am

NancyJo:

We're struggling, too, in Iowa and one of our main suppliers is under water in Valley with a ways to go until they are back up and working again. It's just amazing how a few days can change your life so dramatically.

Our nuke is in Pearl working to get qualified on a boat that is going into drydock so it's been a slow and quiet process. Some advice for those going to Pearl, get your passport if you haven't yet. Without it you will be limited.
