California has fire and we have ice.  Freezing rain started coming down last night around 6.  By 2:00 am we'd lost our power and I could hear trees coming down all around.  Listening to the branches hitting our roof was a bit disconcerting.  My nuke's dog went and hid in the bathroom and is still there.  When I looked on line our electric service provider said that they had 9900 outages and 9600 were still out - ouch that includes me.

My nuke is driving home today after she finishes her shift.  Last night I made the lasagna she requested and am now hoping that it doesn't go bad in the fridge.  Hopefully she has a safe drive in and that the power is back on when she gets here.

Thanks, B'sNuke, love that Heroes Pay Zero info. I know my daughter and ex-nuke SIL use veteran benefits quite a bit and recently bought a home using VA. They even got veteran benefits at Lowe's buying house stuff before they moved in. I like to hear when our veterans are honored in whatever way.

Here's something else I saw on FB - "Heroes Pay Zero".  It's help for homebuying.  I don't have any firsthand knowledge of it but it might be something worth passing on to your sailors:

Hi all - Happy Thursday!

CoTwin - yes, good to hear from you.  Nice that you will have the twins home for Christmas - enjoy!  Can't wait to see pictures ;-D

workingatit - I hope you'll share a picture when you get it.  I think the Navy does try to keep them on the same coast but I don't think they can be on the same ship.  As long as they know there could be times of (long) separation that's the important thing.

The Hammer - you will have a very Merry Christmas on the 27th!

Freebird - are you on the nuke moms secret FB page?  There are a couple moms there that make deliveries to the base and you might have better luck finding something.  Also, I know that often they can find another sailor that is opening up their home and they could join them.  Many parents visit at the holidays and stay in the Villas and welcome sailors that have no where to go.....worth looking in to.

COTwin, so nice to hear from you! It's been ages! How great to have both your boys for Christmas. I can't believe how close you are to ending the navy journey altogether. It's been quite the ride, hasn't it?

workingatit, there are several moms here who have sailors married to sailors. Perhaps they can give you some concrete info. JayDee comes to mind right away. I was surprised when my sailor said his GI Bill or 9/11 bill or whatever they are calling it could be shared with his wife or kids. Another awesome benefit of the navy.

True about the holiday being when the family is together. I remember back a while a mom kept her tree up into February or March so that they had Christmas when their sailor came home. Whatever works! Navy moms learn to go with the flow.

Comment by The Hammer on November 15, 2018 at 6:25am

My sailor is in T-track right now and will class up for Power School after the holidays. This is the first year that he will not be at Thanksgiving or Christmas. The good news is that he is coming home on the 27th... so we will be post-poning our celebration until then.

Sheesh... the Navy is forcing this Mom to grow up!

Hi, not been on here in a while. My Sister and her daughter and family live in Chico, right by Paradise. She used to live there. Has many friends there that lost everything. She had evac orders but did not have to yet. The death toll is unreal. The fire moved so fast that people were literally running for their lives. Such a tragedy. My sister said that it has not rained there since May.

On Sailor news, My nuke sailor will be out of the navy next spring. He plans to go to college and has applied to two close to me. He requested if he could move home for a couple of months till he figures out living arrangements wherever he decides to go to school.

I will have both my guys home for Christmas again this year.

Having to share time with the kids' dad definitely prepared all of us for my son's transition to military life. My ex's career also calls for having holidays on whatever day he has off, so the kids have learned to be flexible and understand that the holiday is the day family is together. I suppose some good things come from difficult times, so I'm appreciative for some earlier life training in this regard.

My sailor's fiance will be graduating boot camp this Friday! He plans to fly there and be with her parents. I can't wait to see them together (in pictures) in their Navy dress blues! I wish i could go I have missed her and I know my son misses her.  They have been very supportive of each other. (Though he did offer her his GI bill if she did not enlist). I know they plan to get married but I am not sure how that will work with both in the navy? He will be done with prototype in Feb and she will also be done with training around that time.
