Love Minnie Mouse! What fun! Great Thanksgiving graphic too. I started to get a tummy ache reading all that. Yikes!

So glad for the 3-day workweek. I hope everybody has a great holiday. We won't all be with our kiddos but that doesn't mean we won't be thinking of them. If you do have your sailor with you, be sure and give a big N4M hug for those of us with empty arms.

Here's a picture of hubby & me & the birthday girl.  She's so sweet!

Hi all - Happy Monday!  Busy (short) week this week so I won't be checking in much but I'm always thinking of all of you!

PattiP - love the picture - thank your for sharing.  I got goosebumps reading NancyJo's comments about the timing of them finishing BC & perhaps going into battle.....really makes you think and appreciate the sacrifices our military men and women make.

Thanks for sharing MommaShep and BZ to your son on his accomplishments!

jurisprude - woohoo - your sailor is so close now. Glad you had a nice visit in Charleston :)

We went to a bday party for a little 3 year old this weekend.  It was Minnie Mouse themed and so cute!  Had lots of fun.

My veteran son is going to Michigan for Thanksgiving with his GF.  College son is going with his GF to her aunts house.  This is the "off" year with the in-laws so it will just be hubby and I and my mom.  I think we're going to go to one of the local casinos for dinner and a little gambling (I'll spend my $20 and be done right away lol!). Hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving!

... and gals!

Hi everyone.  Haven't checked in in a while but have been reading comments everyday.  All's well with prototype graduation around the corner and ELT training next.  Just returned from Charleston.  These are the coolest group of guys.  So supportive of each other.

Comment by NancyJo (NNPTC) on November 21, 2016 at 10:56am

PattiP, I love that photo! How great that you have it. Those guys finished boot camp 4 months before D-Day. I wonder how many of them saw action there? They would have missed the Battle of Iwo Jima but might have seen the Battle of Okinawa. I wonder how many lived to see the end of the war? That photo holds the images of some of the Greatest Generation. Awesome.

B'sNuke & WearsLargeHats, I love you guys.

MommaShep, that's a great post. It could have been written by  any one of us but I know I could not have been so articulate. Well said. Good luck to your sailor on the GW. Is there a GW group here on N4Ms? I'm on the Vinson page and while there isn't much going on now, once we deploy next year I know it will be hopping.

Comment by MommaShep on November 20, 2016 at 9:25pm

So I haven't posted in a long time but I follow all your comments.  My son is a new nuke on the GW and his final board is Monday and then he goes to division - not completely sure what that all means but after all the stress of prototype it just can't be that bad - can it?  He seems happy and has made some really nice friends on the ship.  Our family had the amazing opportunity to fly to Norfolk to participate in the family day event the GW hosted back in October.  I will never forget that special day!  I am so impressed with our Navy and how they include families.  The best thing that ever happened to my son has been joining the Navy and making it through the nuke program in GC.  There were times when he seemed close to breaking and we kept telling him he could do it and that we had faith in him.  I never let him know how many times I'd hang up the phone and melt into tears wishing I could do more to encourage him.  So all you new nuke mommas need to stand strong and never doubt your amazing kids!! They need to hear a confident voice on the other end of the phone telling them - NEVER QUIT!!

Wow not sure where all that came from - but hope it helps you newbies.  Love to all the Navy Moms who've been posting over the past couple of years - you've been my lifeline without even knowing it.

Looking for the GW nuke moms - think someone posted a few weeks ago?

Thanks everyone for the well wishes for my daughter as she embarks on her post-Navy adventures.  I have stayed with you thus far and may hang on since my future son-in-law is also a Nuke.  If any one has questions about the medical discharge process, I can relay to my daughter for a perspective from someone who has been through it.

BsNukeMom and WearsLargeHats - thank you so much for keeping this going. I am in a Navy Mom's FB group but it is nothing like this site.  This site helped me through DEP, Boot Camp. A school and Power School.  The information and advice was invaluable.

CoTwin - My daughter says she wants to teach High School English.  As many have said, she was always smart but was not interested in college the first time she went.  She dropped out after 1 1/2 years because she didn't want to do the math requirement (she was a Drama major).  When she decided to take the ASVAB, she studied harder than I had ever seen her do (to that point) and scored high enough to make the Nuke program.  The Navy experience has really matured her.

Please let me know if I can help in anyway to keep things going!!
