Hey NancyJo,    My sailor will be in GC.   The BS guys already left "Grad and Go".  Not so many are going to BS.  He is with my daughter (his older sister who lives in Charleston area) and will be here in about an hour or so depending on the traffic.  I should be able to get a little more info on proto in GC...I think he began reporting to them today or yesterday.  Don't know when his classes begin.

There are still workmen in the house now...two are installing a mini-split HVAC unit in the sun room. Two more are installing the french doors that slide between the kitchen and the sun room.  Can't get in to fix dinner right now.  Local daughter and college son will be here also with oldest son, DIL, and baby coming in the morning.  Busy but wonderful.  If it rains we will wash all the windows, and try to organize the kitchen....we ladies may do that anyway as we watch babygirl!

Hope you have a great weekend.

Ladies, it seems to me that somewhere I had read that they kids could find out where they were going for prototype on line in advance.  Maybe I'm confusing that with something else but if I'm not, would someone tell me where that is, please.

It's been suggested to my daughter that she'll be staying in GC but last night she informed me that they're now being told that the majority of the class will go to BS.

I'm sure it will all work out for the best but with the wedding the day after graduation I'm looking to get all the info that I can.

Thank you Tom and NancyJo! His ship has been deployed since June so I'm sure he'll be flown to it rather quickly. I think he will be reenlisting next month on his two year anniversary which I understand extends his enlistment another two years. I can't seem to find the sea duty vs. shore duty info, I will keep looking. There's just so much to learn...I thank you both for sharing your knowledge! Any suggestions for items to include in care packages? What items did your nuke want/need? What's one item that they could not live without while deployed? Thank you once again :)

Soft orders are being processed, and the sailor has been told informally what they are, but nothing is official yet. They can still change.

Comment by Lilo54 on August 18, 2016 at 3:56pm

What do they mean when they say they have "soft orders" to a ship?

Hi all - Happy Thursday!

NancyJo - the fires are about 50 miles from us so we're in no danger.  We can see all the smoke but we are safe.  Those in the fire area are really having a rough time of it :(

My mom's surgery is tomorrow so if you all could say a prayer for her that would be appreciated!

Newbie, chances are good your sailor will stay with his same ship. However, the navy being the navy, unusual things do occur.

He will be flown out very soon after he reports to Norfolk. My son flew out to his ship which was in the Persian Gulf like the next day.

My son is looking at his second deployment which will occur about a year and a half after he returned from the last one. During that time they refueled then had to do all the testing that goes with that, and the ship gets cleaned from top to bottom. Or stem to stern if you prefer. ;)

Somewhere in the documents to the right is a rundown of sea duty vs shore duty. Can someone else help her out? I think my sailor told me he would have 2 deployments after he completed his training.

Here's a few questions for all you knowledgeable ladies and gentlemen!

1. Sailor just graduated prototype and assigned to a ship in Norfolk. How long will he be there? Years?
2. When will he be flown out to ship as it is currently deployed?
3. If a ship is deployed now, upon return when does ship usually deploy again?
4. How long is sea duty?

I figured I would ask this group as you all have so much experience and every answer you have provided thus far has been accurate. Thanks in advance!!!!

You sound upbeat and positive, KAM Mom. Having those children underfoot is wonderful, isn't it? I can't remember, does your sailor know if his proto will be in GC or BS?

Thanks for your prayers and well wishes.....NancyJo, Buzzbeck, B'sNuke and others.....

Just sat with my youngest son while he had breakfast and then left for his first day of classes....he is a senior at USC majoring in music.  He will live here this year, but I don't expect to see him much.  Sailor has a meeting this morning to get information about Proto...he expects to get the weekend off ....will sign his apt lease also and then come home to pick up some kitchen type things and his computer.

Am really enjoying our "new" house...it really seems new with all the wonderful renovations.....nothing quite like a new sun room 17 windows all around and a totally new kitchen...beyond my wildest dreams...an investment for the future which is probably better than the stock market.

Enjoy your day.....remember there is One who knows your "going and coming", your "thoughts and unspoken words", and the One who "knit you together in your mother's womb"!! His desire is for you to really know Him as your Savior and not be filled with fear but with peace.
