That is such great news, COTwin! Glad to hear time is flying. Getting dolphins is something my SIL still talks about. It's a big deal!

Got a great start to my day. Got an email from my son! Had not heard from him since January. He got his Dolphins!!! Got pinned by his Sea Dad on the bridge on lap day! Celebrated with first fresh veggies they have had in a long time.
He said they have not seen land much but that when they are underway deployment speeds by. He is looking forward to returning.

WE have all had a very similar experience after PIR and at either airport.  It is a very long night for them as they wait to fly out to wherever.  I have some very cute pictures of sailors sleeping ontop of their sea bags at the "waiting" area.  At Midway there was an older retired sailor who acted as "chief" and herded them from upstairs to down stairs.  He was very "gruff" as a put on and a show for the parents, but he is really quite nice and very helpful.  All of this is part of "letting" go and "letting them grow".  Yes, I worry, but I pray more and entrust him to the Lord Jesus.  Best to all as you continue as "Navy Moms".....

Proud momma, my son graduated boot camp on January 29th. We saw him right after PIR on the floor of the drill hall.  Then he had to go back to his barracks and get his liberty pass and pick up pictures.  We waited til he was done (that took him about 45 minutes) then we left base for the day.  We went to lunch (he really wanted a cup of coffee lol), we went back to our hotel - where he changed into sweats and took a nice long, hot, private shower, and told us all stories of his boot camp experience.  He wanted to eat dinner before he had to be back (boots on the toe line at 8pm, he was told to be on base by 7:30).  We did that and he wanted to be back at base by 7pm.  We had no trouble getting him in and back on time but it was hard to watch him walk away -even at that point.  His bus left base at 1am and we left the hotel at the same time.  We met him in Terminal two just as they had gotten there.  We hung out for awhile, while he was getting his airline ticket we went to an adjoining ticket counter to get family passes. You will need your ID's just like you were flying out too.  We gave him all his electronics, boxers etc. at the airport. Then we all went through security and hung out until he boarded his plane at 4:30 am for Goosecreek.  Soak up every minute.  you will be exhausted from the trip to Great Lakes, the excitement of PIR and the minimal sleep between leaving him off and getting to the airport in the wee hours of  Saturday morning.  You'll be glad you did though - it worth every second.  <3
