Hi all - Happy Thursday and Happy New Year's Eve!

ITgal - I am so sorry to hear about your SIL.  Please look to the right - under the Pages (9) and I have posted the "Emergency Messages via Red Cross" info. This is what you will need to notify your sailor.  You should not email your sailor with this info....Again I am so very sorry about your loss.

CoTwin - Thank you so much for your comment.  I guess I do have a lot of info to share lol (and I'm one of the admins for this page too!) so I guess I will stick around.  Gives me comfort.....

Had an email from my sailor when I woke up this morning.  Made me feel better!  There's been a lot on the news in the last couple of days regarding the Truman but he said all is well!

@ITgal -- I'm so sorry for your loss is the first thing I want to say. ((Hugs))

To answer your question, yes, the Red Cross is the way to handle it. I'll also add that if you have access, getting the information into the hands of your son's ship's ombudsman is a good idea, too. They can help coordinate with the personnel onboard to ensure your son gets the news from the Red Cross rather than another avenue.

My prayers are with you and your family as you navigate through this new part of your lives.

Hi everyone.  My sister in law passed away suddenly and unexpectedly yesterday morning (48 years old).  My son is deployed right now.  Am I right in thinking the best thing is a Red Cross notification?  We're not requesting and wouldn't expect leave, I just don't want him to get the news via Facebook next time they come in to port before hearing it from a person.  I'm assuming emailing him this news would not be delivered?

Your advice and experience would be appreciated.

B's nuke mom. Why do you have to leave? You still are a navy mom and have info for here, just a vet from here now, and a friend.

Just a mom. Power school should be 6 months (24weeks)I went for a week also, rented a great movie her in law cottage close to base in a quiet neighborhood, had a yard and BBQ. 2 bedrooms so my son could stay also. I was there when he learned he passed comps. I posted in discussions on where to stay contact info for that cottage.

B's Mom,
I'm sure your experience will still be valuable on this page.  You have much wisdom and experience to share with new moms like me.

B'sMom, I like what WearsLargeHats (if I recall correctly) posted earlier about being blown off course but not shipwrecked.  Perfect Navy metaphor.
