When they are just out of boot camp late in the year, they may not have enough leave accumulated for the Christmas break, but they are allowed to borrow a few days so they can take it anyway. So "in the hole" on leave days. No big deal, we do the same in the private sector.

Comment by MICKIE on October 22, 2015 at 10:13pm

What does that mean "in the hole"?

hello all!!

glad to see some fellow moms are back!!

bnuke--give you sailor a hug from all of us!!

dittersmom--my son and wife were here for a short visit. it had been two years since he was home. they are now back in Hawaii.  it was hard seeing them go not knowing when there will be a next visit.  it is nice knowing they are happy!

Comment by Dittersmom on October 22, 2015 at 2:22pm
NancyJo ~ Ditter is stationed on the George Washington. He will be on land for his entire time in the navy unless he extends. He will do short underways. As a mom I feel lucky, he feels a little short changed. I can visit in VA.

Dittersmom, normally I might take offense at being called an old-timer but not with N4Ms! LOL But thanks for the welcome back.

You and B'sNuke could be sisters, but here you have lots of sea sisters who know just what you are feeling. It is tremendously hard sometimes but tomorrow will be better, and then the day after that. Sometimes holding back the tears is impossible. When I left SD last week I bawled all the way through security.

Being in the fleet is a whole new thing so get ready. You might try to find your sailor's ship page, and sometimes they have a Facebook presence also. I'm not one too much for FB but when my son was deployed it was another story. Is your sailor on the same ship as B'sNuke's? I can't remember.

I'm so glad you got that family vacation in! Sounds life-giving and precious. You all will remember that forever. It will be a nice thing to hold onto while your sailor is away from home.

Okay ladies. Lots to post.  I can't remember who posted it, but thank you for saying that Bnukes and I could be sisters.  She is beautiful inside and out.  It was so much fun to meet in person and I was blessed that She came to see me.  Didn't realize how much I hate being on the road after my accident and the Starbucks was close.

Today my sailor is flying back to SC and then driving to VA for his new assignment. I have never been the mom to be in tears, but today is so hard.  I did great during BC and fine the other times that I we have been together, but today is just hard.  I am really praying that I don't cry tonight when I drop him off.

On the other hand we have had a wonderful visit.   We were able to take our sailor on the surprise vacation that we had planned for the 3 kids still at home.  We took lots of pictures and had lots of good laughs.

NancyJo it is so nice to have you back.  We have had several old timers chiming in.  It is so nice to hear where our sailors are going.  Well I made this longer then I had intended.

Bnukes have fun and give your sailor a hug from me and tell him I said thank you for sharing you with our group.

Happy day everyone.  God Bless.

Yea J's/S'smom! Great news! Give your sailor extra hugs from N4M!

MN Mom you are crazy busy. I hope your Sno Flakes sell well. They are just great. Seems like an entrepreneur spirit is a characteristic of N4M. Glad you checked in.

OK MarkAnthony'sMom, I was in San Diego for 2 wks about 2 minutes from that Starbucks. I wish I'd knows you were so close! Next time we need to meet!

Wow....I see  a lot has gone on here in the past months as I skimmed the posts, and to just give a little update, we did a driving trip to VA to see and help move our sailor and daughter in law in August.  Then the kitchen remodel started.  Kept the computer shut down while the demo was going on, then took it in for a tune-up.  By first week of September school was starting for my Reading Intervention job, as well as  the weekly craft shows where I sell my Minnesota Sno Flakes. That will continue as I have craft or vendor shows scheduled through mid December.   It has been a crazy, busy, fun time.  Prayers for all you and your sailors.
