So I had a nice talk with my son who is half way through Power School.  Its tough and he is trying to stay upbeat. He also implied that if he was re-rated it wouldn't be so bad.  He said he is taking it one week at a time.  I know he was also down because he got word that he won't get to take leave at Thanksgiving.  He said no one currently in the training units are getting leave for the Thanksgiving.  Doesn't surprise me though, I wasn't expecting him being able to come home.  His class is set to graduate right before Christmas stand down so I figure they don't want them to miss out on study hours .  He didn't know if he was having classes or not.  I am disappointed but he should be home for Christmas.  Last year he went to boot camp three days before Thanksgiving.  I didn't realize how hard it was going to be not having my kids around for the holidays.  Oh, and he is really tired of all the rain!  The flooded paths and having to walk to the buildings in the soaking rain gets old real fast!  So prayers for all the sailors struggling with their studies and also for the sun to come out!

Brute future, when your son is a little older he will think that Halloween was invented just to prolong his birthday celebration! My husband's birthday is 11/1 and he said that he can't imagine a better day for a birthday. He was born on his Dad's birthday and is the oldest - how cool is that? My Navy son is also a November baby, and his birthday always falls on or near Thanksgiving.
On another topic, we are in Richmond and are surviving the rain. I am gong to the Outer Banks in a few hours for a much needed week at the beach. I told everyone that I was expecting Joaquin to stay away from my plans and, guess what, he did! Now let's just hope that everyone on the east coast stays safe.

I agree with you CO-Twin, what a sad day for sailor's Ferdin family. Pray that the good Lord will bring him back to them. My heart breaks for that mother.
Congrats on your soon to open bakery!
Keep safe up north Britefuture, hope all this messy weather finish soon. Have a great weekend everyone!

Nov 2 is my little one's birthday. That's a great day!

Opening date Nov 2, so one month from today.

So sad about the missing sailor. Not looking good for finding him I think. Happy birthday Sweet young man.

Nope! Not worried at all! And this is what I get for saying anything at all. Erg! Three trees down so far. Winds gusting @ 45 mph here! And this has nothing to do with a hurricane.

Hi all - Happy Friday!

CoTwin - the bakery's coming along - you've been busy!

Nuke&Snipes Mom - welcome!  Jump right in & feel free to ask any questions you may have.  Be sure to read the pages (10) to the right under the member profiles.  Lots of good info there...

britefuture - Hopefully your mom will be safe.  I heard this morning that now it's not expected to hit land so hopefully that's a good thing - still lots of rain though.  My sons ship came back in yesterday for about 4 hours (public info), picked up supplies and then headed back out to sea to avoid the storm.

Latest news is my fridge is to delivered today now between 10-12!  Woohoo - hope it works out this time ;-)

It's sad news that nothing has turned up on Sailor Ferdin.  I can't even imagine what they are going through - and his birthday today too....

Hope everyone has a good weekend.  College son has a cross country race tomorrow & we are going to a wedding in the evening - good friends of my sailors (they had asked him to be in the wedding, but that didn't work!).

Good Morning Nuke Moms :)

There is still no new information about Vincent Ferdin, the sailor missing from GC. N4M hugs, thoughts, prayers for his loved ones on his birthday today.

From the search website: In honor of Vincent’s birthday on Friday, October 2, 2015, we are asking everyone to show their support by wearing blue.

Take a photo wearing your blue, add the hashtag #FIndingFerdin, then share it everywhere and send up a prayer for his safe return.
