I'm still in VA. My sailor's transition to the fleet hasn't been the best. CVN72 is in Newport News shipyard. He will be in indoctrination for 3 weeks. After that will be with a permanent division working on completing the ship. He wants to finish Indoc so bad so he can start working. The ship is scheduled to be moved to Norfolk spring next year.
He's not a very happy sailor right now but says that he will be fine. We will be in Virginia for a week before going back to FL so we just spend every day with him after he gets off Indoc.
He's with the general population in the barracks, everyone in Newport News belongs to CVN72. No wifi reception, rooms shared by three sailors, no individual TV's or game consoles allowed in the rooms, and you all know what that means for a nuke, LOL! Neighborhood around barracks very shady, not appealing at all. I feel sorry for my sailor, but like he said he'll be fine. Trying to make this first week easier for him. Next week he's on his own! We have been blessed to be able to spend even another week after his leave together. Been to the huge NEX in Norfolk and planning on taking the tour inside the base tomorrow. Staying at the lodging on base a couple of days.

Interesting article "Call Me a Nuclear Engineer".  I know it's more about officers, but interesting nonetheless.  (I believe we have a few officers here, right?)

Hi all - Happy Monday!  Hope everyone had a nice Mother's Day.  I was lucky, my sailor sent flowers on Saturday and I got a call on Sunday (this was my 3rd Mother's Day without my Sailor).  Then later in the day we were at my mom's & he called & spoke with her - MADE HER DAY!

BoyWonderMom - That was a fantastic Mother's Day!  So glad you were able to make the road trip with him ;-)

MichianaMom - BZ to your sailor!!!  And that's great that he got SPU.  I hope he gets a little time off before training so you can spend some time with him.

Co-Twin - sorry you had to say "see you later".  Boy the time sure goes by fast, doesn't it?!  And thank goodness for overnight - of all the things to forget - his uniforms ~ yikes!  Great job to you on passing your exams!

Britefuture - glad to hear your sailor is adjusting to life on the carrier.....

Hope everyone had a great weekend.....

Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day! My husband and I drove from FL to VA yesterday to accompany our sailor for the long ride to his new command. I spent 12 hours with my son inside a Mini Cooper, had the best time with him, a fantastic Mother's Day present.
Today we went with him to say our goodbyes but got lucky and were able to spend the day with him after he got a temporary room assigned. Checking in went well. We will be back tomorrow to take the rest of his stuff that he couldn't keep today in the temporary room and much less leave it in his car for someone to be tempted.
His ship is currently being refurbished, and the command is a shipyard. It's a very bare and quiet place. Feel sorry for sailors that do not own a car. Bittersweet day this Mothers Day, had to see my child walk away once again.

Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms here.  Believing it was a wonderful day.  My sailor called early this AM.  One happy mom here.

Hope all the moms are enjoying Mother's Day!  Quick update on my son - the one who wasn't sure of his class number!  Last Saturday he turned 23, Sunday passed his oral board, and officially has graduation May 29.  After all the back and forth between carrier and sub, he elected staff pick up and will start training tomorrow.  Two of his roomies also got staff pick up.  He thinks he can put in for a week off after training is done, so we are looking forward to having him home for a bit.  Also looking forward to visiting him in Saratoga Springs a couple times in the next two years!
