Popeyesmon, my son is on Montpelier SSN765. he's an ELT, married and has 2 boys ages almost 3 and One 4 months. He said his Maggie Walker class was the lazy one but the education has served him well. I think he likes being close to home so that, when he's out, we are near for my DIL and the boys. Lunch sounds great!

1proudmomma - I'll get that name for you. He's a small farmer (not like Ashland Berry Farm). I would go out there but we have so many strawberries from our own back yard...

Absolutely, let's do lunch! Can NonnaB come, too?

TJ ProudNukeMom, I guess you must be right about a college degree. It seems so strange to me (product of the 80's). It's not just the military, though, where a college degree only gets you a 'high school graduate' job. What kind of degree does your sailor have?

popeyesmomma- I'm on the other side of the county but do know of mechanicsville, but not their berry farm. Ironically I use to work at Ashland Berry farm in beaverdam Va. I was in charge of the perennial department. They use to do pick your own berries, but got into pondscapes and have a huge halloween haunt and pumpkin picking but no more berries. I now pick my berries at Mount Olive but if you get me name I'll give them a try. My son will be on the Lincoln, it is half way through its 3 year overhaul. Then supposedly going to San Diego. So he'll be close to home for 2 years. He just graduated from NY prototype. Glad that is over with. whew I go into short pump often we'll have to hook up for lunch.

NonnaB - Hello from beaverdam Va my husband works for North anna power plant so that is why we are on this side of the county. My best friend and neighbor was just chosen to go to Maggie Walker. Only one picked from Hanover, starts next year. His dad fellow Nuke works with my husband. Would love to hook up with you for lunch one day too if you can. What ship is your son on

Happy Friday thanks B for picture

Hi all - Happy Friday!  I'm a little slow posting this morning....a lot going on at work today (and I'm working a short day).

Got my RED shirt on ;-)

College son has a track meet this afternoon/evening and then again tomorrow.  It's their SCIAC championships.  He's running the steeplechase today and the 5000 tomorrow.  Praying his feet have wings lol!

Sunday is hubby's birthday (#55!).  College son & his GF are coming over and we are going to the movies and then out for sushi.  Looking forward to it ';-)  Sailor is hoping he can call.

NonnaB - have you mentioned before what ship your son is on?  Mine's in Norfolk on the Truman.  He's only been there since February though!

1proudmama - I used to watch I Love Lucy all the time as a kid!  7Pm I would be planted in front of the tv....good memories/good times!  The Vitametavegimin episode was a favorite!

Have a wonderful Friday all and an even better weekend!

My son has a degree as do some others from his PIR group. A college degree no longer automatically means officer. I think they have so many going in with degrees now that it just doesn't work that way anymore

NonnaB, Maggie Walker... I'm impressed!

My son and his wife lived in Mechanicsville for a little while. She's from King William, but her grandparents have a farm in Mechanicsville. They have a pick-your-own strawberry patch (maybe you've even been there).

How does your sailor like the Navy? Can you say which ship he's on? My sailor was worried about choosing Norfolk - not because he doesn't want to be there, but because he said that once you're there they won't send you anywhere else.

My sailor told me that there are a few enlisted guys who have a degree that are in his class. In fact, he has told me there's a guy in another class who has a Nuclear Engineering degree (still enlisted).

Oh bright future you are fine. I have not been posting as much and have missed some as I have been loaded down with school stuff the past month. Almost at the finish line. Still no externship lined up. Pray somethin comes through please.
I also don't really want to eat much when I am cooking. Wen I worked in the restaraunt before I had my boys I really did not eat much and lost weight. I have a theory that when you get into cooking your mouth waters and it makes you acctually not hungry. It can slightly make my tummy upset also. At school though as part of the day we HAVE to taste everything that all students make for class disscussion on what worked what didn't. I try to take only a bit of each though. I unfortunatly have gained weight during this school year.
Riots?? I just do not understand that mentallity. I may be off base but as I see it everyone has to be responsible for oneself. If you want to better yourself, have self control, do not have kids you can not take care of, practice abstinance. GET A JOB. Work to better yourself. volunteer places for experience to get a better job later. It is a mistake to depend on others to carry you through life. The welfare system is set up to keep them dependent. Not good. OK rant over.
Heather a second honeymoon,,,nice. Where do you think you will go?
Comment by NonnaB on May 1, 2015 at 8:41am
Popeyesmomma, it's such a small world - we live in Mechanicsville and my Nuke graduated from Maggie Walker. He's been in 5 years and is stationed in Norfolk.

Lilo54, sounds good! I hope you have a great visit with him! I can still send pictures to you.

1Proudmama, congrats to your sailor on completing photo-type! Where did he go for that - NY or Goosecreek? My sailor thinks that they might keep him in Goosecreek. He says that there are a lot of married sailors (some with kids).

It's so cool you're in Hanover! We're in Short Pump. My sailor graduated from Deep Run (with Gov. McDonnell's twins and Eric Cantor's daughter). My daughter took a different route and is attending high school at CFA at Henrico High School. She'll be in the crowd today to welcome American Idol contestant, Rayvon Owen, to Richmond at the James Center. He's then supposed to go to the pep rally at HHS. I hope the rain stops for at least a little while...

1proudmama, is your son the one going to the Lincoln? I can't remember. My son is, and we are driving from FL next weekend with him to VA. It's a long drive, we just want to make sure everything goes well and he gets there without trouble. We are staying in Ashland for the weekend.
