COTwin, what are those things? You are killing me. I'm about to make a run to Dunkin Donuts for a 2nd best alternative to those scrumptious temptations.

Oh 1proudmama the waiting is painful! I'll be thinking of you often.

Hey WearsBigHats....Been a long time. How are you doing? been wondering.

Welcome NamyMomJoy... So hard for me to believe it has been long enough now that my son EM is about to graduate Prototype. He knows his boat and home port and has for awhile. Surprised he got that info before passing comps and orals. He still has orals to the best of my knowledge. He seems to be on target with a lot of your nuke sailors in not being the best at communicating.

I have third quarter finals next week then Wednesday after school I will drive 6 hours to go for a visit with this Sailor's twin who is home for pre-deployment leave. I will get to see him half of Easter week and Easter Sunday then bomb back to School.

Today got news from School administration that I have a 4.0 GPA so far.

Croissants I made this week. Regular, Chocolate and Almond

Lilo54- My son's class got 10 days of leave after graduation.  It originally wasn't scheduled to begin until a week after graduation but was later changed to begin immediately after graduation.  A lot of families did not come because leave was scheduled and most of the grads went home right after graduation.  My son was able to keep the original leave dates, which was really nice because it coincided with our Spring Break.  It was pretty special getting to see him to myself at graduation and then having him home a week later for all his friends/girlfriend/brother all home for Spring Break.

In other news, the delicious brunch we had was at Star Rooftop downtown on one of the historic streets.

jurisprude:  I'm glad you had such a nice time for graduation.  Your were one determined Navy Mom!!!  My son is in A school now and is suppose to graduate May 15.  Right now we plan to go to graduation.  My question is - did your son get any leave after graduation.  I was wondering if your son went back home with you afterwards?  If my son gets leave, he might want to leave as soon as possible after graduation and head home to spend time with the rest of his family and his friends!.

Welcome NavyMomJoy.  My son signed up for the Nuke program in last April and was in DEP until November.  He left two days before Thanksgiving.  The time will go very fast for you.  My son said it went slow for him because he was anxious to start his Navy life.  We had a combination of Thanksgiving and Christmas early so he didn't miss out on the holiday trimmings and food!  Try to do as many family activities that you and your daughter's schedule allows!  If you have any questions, this group is extremely helpful and usually someone responds right away.  Good luck.

jurisprude - thanks for sharing your adventure with us!  Glad you made it to graduation - boy that was close!

Sierrascrapper - how fun - a surprise visit!  Lucky, lucky, lucky!  Yep, make sure to get extra hugs ;-)  And good luck to him on his driving test!

Welcome NavyMomJoy - It seems to be quite normal to be in DEP for that long.  My son signed his contract in Jan '12 & shipped in Oct '12.  Although it seems like a long time it will go by fast!  Start preparing now - don't wait!

1proudmama - I hope it works out for you that your son gets Norfolk.....(I'd be willing to trade if he got San Diego, but I don't know how we can convince the Navy of that).  So far I think my son is enjoying VA - although I don't think he's seen much of it.  He's been busy with his ship and he has watch every 3rd day......

HAHA 1proudmama, delusional. That struck me funny.

I love those moments when I'm sitting at my desk at work and read the posts as they pop up, then just laugh out loud. My co-workers know I'm probably reading N4Ms again. ;D

thanks michicanamom for chiming in on what you are hearing. Cracks me up that you said your son doesn't even know what class he is in. Sounds like he might be in 1403 with mine. My sailor  is also an EM rate. It seems like proto type really keeps us guessing on graduation dates. I'm really anxiously awaiting on finding out his home port and ship. So hoping it is Norfolk since we are from Virginia. But told Bnukesmom who is near San Diego and son got Norfolk mine will probably get San Diego. If this happens maybe we can petition the Navy for a sailor swap. Only kidding I'm not that delusional. No word yet but he usually doesn't get home till after 7:00. I'll probably have to call him to find out if he passed even though he knows I'm waiting. typical nuke

Hi Everyone,

For anyone interested in hearing about A school graduation, boyfriend and I were able to attend my son's ceremony a few weeks ago, and I am so glad that we did.  Funny story first; getting there was crazy.  It was during the last round of storms and so our flight out of Austin was canceled.  After re-scheduling, our connecting flight out of Dallas was then canceled, so we had to re-schedule again to fly to D.C. and then to Charleston.  When we arrived in D.C. (the evening before Friday graduation), our connecting flight to Charleston was ...canceled!  Snow was about a half-foot thick on the runway!  By then, I was manic and determined to get there.  Luckily, we were able to find a connecting flight to Atlanta, which arrived there around 1:00 in the morning.  We rented a one-way car to Charleston and after driving through the night like a crazed mom determined to see her son, we finally made it to GC at 6:30 in the morning and on time for graduation! (without luggage, of course; boyfriend slept the whole way).  Absolutely no regrets, however.

The graduation ceremony was extremely special and personalized.  While lacking the pomp and circumstance of PIR, I found it to be a really nice and intimate ceremony.  There was a personalized flyer for the ceremony announcing the speakers and graduates by name.  The actual ceremony took place in a small room with an elevated stage.  The 20 or so graduates sat on one side of the room and the families sat on the other.  It was very informal.  After some really good speeches honoring the graduates, each graduate was called by name to walk across a stage area and parents were encouraged to stand and walk around to position for pictures, etc.  They even would stop mid-stage for anyone wanting to take pictures as the grad walked across.  It was so nice to meet the other grads in the class and those in charge of training them.  An amazing close-knit group.

Charleston, itself, was fun to tour.  We ate delicious food.  Shrimp and grits, bloody marys, and mimosas seem to be the local faves.  I highly recommend brunch at Toast and one other place we ate that had a roof-top area.  Can't remember the name now, but I'll post again after I hear back from my son.  As far as hotel, we stayed at Radisson near the airport, which was economical and positioned about half-way between GC and downtown (not fancy, but convenient).  We had excellent access to everything.

Overall a really nice visit!
