Hi everyone!

William- Sorry that you don't feel well. Get better soon, friend.

Thank you for the info. and the article on the TR. My son is a little happier hearing about the deployment and the change of home port. His words, "at least it's my second choice port". Of course then his buddy got his orders and he got the sub that they both really wanted. And his room mates are being "detached" this Friday and my son isn't. So now he said that he's homeless as of Friday. Unless he finds another place in two days. Ugh! These procrastinating kids of ours. Didn't we just have a conversation about this????????

CO Twin- I am fairly new to this site and was thrilled to see the picture you posted of the 4 boys snowboarding. My son is the 3rd one!! Thanks so much for posting it! My son is not the best communicator so I don't hear much about what he does.

For the ones graduating soon and awaiting ship assignments, With all these aircraft carrier swaps it is going to be a little confusing at first. I have them all written down and which ones are going where, so when he calls with ship assignment I'll have a quick reference. He's hoping for Norfolk so he will be close to home, and lies where they deploy too better, but San Diego would be a nice consolation home port too.

I've heard a lot about the hull-swap - the "Three Presidents". Your Sailors are lucky to be involved in such an historic event!

Hi all - Happy Wednesday!

Welcome Beachmom!  Make sure you read the pages to the right - under the member profiles.  Tons of good info there! And if you don't find what you are looking for, feel free to ask.  Hopefully you have joined the Boot Camp group & your DEP leaving in November group.  Both will help you prepare.

britefuture - well sorry he didn't get subs...hopefully he'll be happy on the TR.  Make sure you join the Roosevelt group on here....it's been very active lately as they prepare to sail.  Got delayed because of some moss in the river (all public knowledge). They are hoping for today....Does your son still get his 30 day leave?  I wonder then if they will fly him out to meet the ship....

1proudmama - I can relate on the delays for S8G!  My son was in BS for 13 months LOL.....just tell him to enjoy his time there while he can ;-)  (And make sure to get to the Iron Roost for breakfast!!)

I saw that too, scrappyjax. I didn't know it was today but I knew it was soon. Congrats, britefuture! My son is on the Carl Vinson, CVN70, based in San Diego. SD is a great location, very military friendly. The CVN70 will be returning from deployment to the Persian Gulf in a few months and I wondered if CVN71 was replacing them but no clue if that is true. OPSEC being what it is, I was surprised by the openness of CVN70's location. A couple of news groups did pieces on them while they were there, the French navy came and trained with them, lots of press. But it was nice hearing stuff about my son's ship and I hope the same is true of the CVN71.
