Good morning!  It's a beautiful day here in Nevada today!  We got some MUCH NEEDED rain over the weekend and some beautiful snow in the mountains.  The reports have said that the lake level in Lake Tahoe raised up 5" which is wonderful news!  I keep warning all of my East Coast friends to be prepared as the storms we got are headed their way and they are full of moisture.  See the pics of the snow there in BS is just crazy!  I can't understand why my crazy Sailor wants to go there for Prototype.  LOL

William...looks like the skies are beautiful in HI.  Enjoy the time you have and hopefully getting the much needed sunshine will carry you through the rest of the winter you are going to be facing when you get back.

B'sNukeMom...the pics and story you shared about the ceremony for your step-dad are precious.  I'm so glad your Sailor was able to participate.

A little update...last week my son took another test as usual and he did REALLY well this time, in the 3.5 range. Makes me feel so much better.  I don't worry too much about him because he always seems to be able to meet the challenges set before him.  He definitely finds ways to destress on the weekends.  As far as finding a place to play his clarinet Co-Twin, he is involved with the music ensemble on base. From what he has told me, they have been practicing to be able to play for a few upcoming Power School graduations. I think that will be a NICE addition to the ceremony.  He also is planning on getting a "license" to play music on the street corner in Charleston on the weekends.  He has already inquired with the command on whether he can do it or not and they have given him the nod.  The city makes them get a license so that they can tax them on their earnings that they make while playing. LOL  My geek is a HUGE fan of the Space X program and has dreams of being an astronaut and going to Mars one day.  This past weekend was a BIG deal as far as the Space X program goes as they had planned to launch a re-usable rocket into space and several other launches and retrievals.  They ended up scrubbing the launch on Sunday and they tried again yesterday, but it was scrubbed again.  They have another launch planned today.  He is REALLY excited about this and we have now given him the nickname of RocketMan. LOL

J's mom, you have been such a gift to this group from my first days here, almost 5 yrs ago now. BC! Just a memory but I'll never forget PIR and thinking that we gave them a boy and in those short weeks he became a man. I'm tearing up just thinking about it.

I will definitely get that book for my DIL to share with her children. Am I right that Rush Revere is a bunch of books that homeschoolers use? I think my daughter has some of those.

B'sNuke, what will you do when your sailor has to leave? At least Norfolk has decent weather, not like BS at all! Enjoy him as I know you will, and pack in lots of hugs.

I'm kind of getting the feeling that carrier sailors might have it a little easier than sub sailors or am I just dreaming? Maybe my son isn't complaining to me so I don't worry. It's still early days yet for him though so we'll see what he says when they get back in a few months.

J'smom, I will hold your son in my prayers with my own sailor. The path our children have chosen is not an easy one and I hope they don't get discouraged. When my son was home in December his wife made an offhand remark about not wanting her son to do this. My son quietly talked about the importance of what they were trying to do and I felt so proud of him just then. I hope someday they all look back and say it was worth it. I know I couldn't be any prouder.

Hi all - Happy Tuesday!  Thank you all so much for the kind words - it truly means a lot to me ;-)

J's/S'smom - so sorry you couldn't sleep - what a dreadful feeling when you want to sleep but it doesn't happen.  This happens to my hubby a LOT....ugh!

NancyJo - hope your DIL feels better soon (and that it doesn't last the whole pregnancy).  I'm glad that your son only has to deal with a half-deployment his first time out!

I'm working just a few hours today and then we (hubby, sailor, my mom & I) are heading to San Diego for the afternoon.  Sailor found a place on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives that he wants to try for lunch.  Beautiful weather today so we are just going to walk around Old Towne & hang out.  Looking forward to a nice afternoon!

My son saw pictures yesterday from some of his friends still in NY - boy they got a lot of snow.  He was sitting in shorts & a tank top while he was looking at the pictures - he's not missing NY at all either!

Dittersmom - I'm West Coast - SoCal (Riverside) - about an hour from San Diego.

Sending sunshine to all who need it!

J'smom, that's a great idea! I will suggest that. You always have something helpful to offer. :D

I know that when new employees enter the schools (I work for a school district) the first year is always full of sickness of one kind or another. Sounds like that might be true on ships and subs, especially subs with whatever air system they have. New set of germs to get used to. Some of the moms on my son's ship's page have talked about their sailors being under the weather. Vitamins are never a bad idea.

Did your nuke reenlist? Has he enjoyed being on a fast attack?

Comment by NancyJo (NNPTC) on February 10, 2015 at 11:56am

My son emailed me this morning from the Persian Gulf and said he had been under the weather with a head cold. They had a BBQ on the ship with steaks but he didn't partake, opting to sleep. He said just as well, eating something great like BBQ steaks might make chow seem less tasty and right now he's satisfied with what they serve. One finds the silver lining where one can!

His wife and kids love SD but really miss daddy. Her grandpa and cousin have been to visit which helped a lot. I'm so grateful that since he joined mid-cruise he only has half a deployment this time. Ten months is so long for a family to be apart. Plus my DIL has morning sickness. Oh well.

NE had a couple snow days but nothing like the northeast. My son says he doesn't miss NY one bit. I'll bet! William picked the perfect time to visit his sailor in Hawaii, lucky guy!

J'smom, I'm sorry you didn't get to sleep. That's miserable, especially when there are others to take care of. Moms always go the extra yard.

CoTwin, I didn't comment earlier but your flower is fantabulous! It looks like you have found your niche. You go girl!

Comment by Dittersmom on February 10, 2015 at 3:34am
Okay, who is on the west coast? I am always the last to respond. I always read when I go to bed. By the way, Bsnuke, you owe me a dry pillow case. You had me in tears. Thank goodness for William's and Co twin's beautiful and sunny pictures to cheer me up. Lol. Thank you so much for sharing. I am so glad that you had family to share with and such a beautiful ceremony.

Foreverproud - i did not get your pm. You try me and i will also send you another one.
