Hi all - Happy Monday!

Tom - thanks for sharing the video!

britefuture - nice to hear that your sailor is enjoying the winter activities in NY ;-)  Fingers crossed that he will be able to get home for Christmas!  And so happy to hear that your daughter is doing better with her PPD.  Little Emersen is such a sweetie!

Hubby taped the Army/Navy game so we got to watch it later.  HOOYAH NAVY!!  13 years in a row - wow!  Did you all catch any of the commercials?  They had some funny ones.....

Hope everyone has a great week!

When you pack keep your sailor's destination in mind.  My first went to Charleston in January and needed upper 50's-60's clothing. I also put in his favorite chucks (sneakers) and pajama bottoms for a touch of home. My new recruit will report to San Antonio in Feb., I'm going to put in shorts and T-shirts.  FYI-at Charleston nubes had to wear their peanut butters off base so there wasn't a big need for civilian clothes right away.  I don't know if this was just the case for Nukes, or whether all newbies have to do it.

My son had PIR on 12-12-14 and flew out of Midway on 12-13-14. I brought his backpack from home filled with his laptop, cellphone, boxers/clothes, shoes, toothbrush and toothpaste he likes, and thought we would just take out what would fit into his big green bag or his Navy backpack.  However, he was able to take the entire backpack from home. Once at the airport, they were told they could check up to four bags - one was the big green bag, one was the garment bag, then he also checked on the backpack we brought him.  He carried on his Navy backpack - just transferred his laptop and cellphone with chargers to that bag.

Hi Navygirlfriend,

I had the same question and my Sailor said he would not be able to carry any additional baggage.  He was barely able to put his running shoes in his Navy backpack.  I was at the airport with all the Nuke Sailors and they were loaded down with their big green backpack, a big garment bag with dress uniforms and the big black back pack.  I only brought his shoes, socks, underwear and a new phone to him.  I shipped everything else when I got home.  Hope this helps.  I was going to try to post a photo of them in the airport, it was a great photo of the Sailors walking through with all their gear.  Gives me tears to this day and its been a month.  ;-) I am just not sure how to post it.

Hi everyone! I hope you are all well. I have a lot of catching up to do. Before I do, I wanted to update things here. In case I get interrupted, lol.

I heard from Sailor boy yesterday. He a bunch of "buddies" have been enjoying snow activities up in New York. He shared many stories of falls and crashes while learning how to snow board, his new favorite past-time. I begged him to be careful and safe, lol. Ugh, these boys!!!!!!!!!! He's having a frustrating time at work, trying to get watches. His keep getting cancelled for one reason or another. And then they get, "bitched at", for not getting their watches done and falling behind. All part of the Prototype game I suppose. He also shared that it looks like he'll be able to come home for Christmas. Not 100% sure, but that's how it looks, for now.

My daughter is doing much better. She started talking to a therapist and after two, one hour, appointments, she had a bit of an epiphany. She said that she realized that she was looking at Emersen as someone that needed to change, to please her. Not just accepting him for the miracle that he is. Once she changed her thinking, things just started falling in place for her and my little grandson. Now Mom and Baby are a happy couple. Daddy too, lol.

On a lighter note. The Army/Navy game was here, in Baltimore, today. It was a sea military personnel. I love it! Just to be among such an amazing group of men and women bursting with USA pride. Awesome! Navy won btw, in case you didn't know.

I am so excited we will pick up Nathan from Nuke school on 12/19 till 1/3. What a blessing. We live in Florida so about a 4 to 5 hour drive. He graduated from BC 12/5 and he flew out of O'Hare 12/6/14 around 8:45 am on United. We were able to bring his laptop, cell phone charges and a few small personal items he was dying for 1 being q-tips and foot power. He said class will start on 12/15/14 so it will be nice to here how their days go. He wanted MM and subs was able to get that. Now hoping he does well enough to be chosen for the welding .
