8isenuff, my son and I were just talking about liberty radius a couple of days ago. We are inside 350 miles, but we usually have thanksgiving at my brother-in-law's, which is probably a bit outside. My son said that if he signs out to come home it isn't really an issue where he goes with us. So maybe yours could sign out to their brother's place. I don't think it is that hard to get a chit to go beyond the radius anyway, esp if it is just a few miles. Getting time to travel is the bigger challenge.

OMG NancyJo - I just don't know how you handle that cold weather!  I am such a big sissy.  You'd think I was heading to Antarctica the way I was bundled up - my layers had layers! LOL  My hubby on the other hand was still wearing his shorts!  I was still able to smile though!

Oh, B'sNukeMom, what I would give for 28*! Drove to work at 11*, windchill below zero. Brrr! Sounds like there actually might be some news soon about your nuke's future. Is he going sub or surface?

Not having my sailor and his family for holidays will be tough, but they are making the move from Ballston Spa to San Diego in the coming weeks. They will leave NY and drive to Nebraska to spend time with family before reporting to his assignment in January. They will be here between holidays, but for me it will be holidays while they are here. Hurray!

Catching up on everything - it's nice to hear what's going on with everyone.  NDM great to hear from you; continued prayers as you enjoy your time with your son home.  CO-Twin sounds like you're in a great program, an externship in a far away place - pick one with no snow!  And B'sNukeMom sure hope that date sticks for you.  My son is in BS waiting to start classes and I'm pretty sure those that stayed in GC have already started.  He said that while they are waiting the 17 that are in his section are getting to know each other and he is forming more friendships.  They have been doing a lot of volunteering in the area.  He's worked at a children's museum, helped with the MDA Jail and Bail (he got to go and "arrest" people - he thought that was a hoot!), and worked a weekend at Camp Chingachgook.  Here's a picture of him (on the far right) and one of his roomies (in yellow) and another Nuke that was helping out.  There's a couple more pics on the Camp Chingachgook FB page if anyone has a Nuke on hold at BS; maybe yours is there! Happy Monday everyone!

B'sNukeMom, Woo Hoo is right!  I sure hope that date sticks for him, too.  Seems like he has been in BS forever!  Sounds like you guys had a pretty good weekend, in spite of the cold.  :-)

I just thought of a question for you more knowledgeable moms and dads out there.  Is it possible for our son to be able to take a day off from morning classes to watch his sister graduate PS on Friday?  Has that even ever been done?  I am sure he would have to have special permission, but whom to ask?  His SLPO?  His grades are good, so that should not be an issue.  I just thought it would be pretty cool to have them there together, supporting each other.  He helped convince her to start this entire adventure in the first place.

Hi All - Happy Monday!

Great picture of the family NDM - thanks for sharing!  Have a wonderful visit with your son and continued prayers for you ;-)

We had a great time in Oregon this weekend - although it was soooo cold.  It was 26* when we arrived at the cross country course on Saturday!  Brrrrrrr.....I think it warmed up to 28 by the time the race started. I though I was going to freeze LOL. College son had a great race - he ran a career-best time of 26:46.5 (8k) and was the teams top runner!  We were so happy that we are able to be there to see him finish off the season in such a great way.  Now he has 2 weeks off and then training starts for track season.

8isenuff - we spoke with sailor last night and he says proto grad is scheduled for 1/23/15!  WooHoo.....I just hope the day holds as it has changed so many times.  He has quite a few friends from PS that stayed in GC for proto and they are done already!

Good luck to everyone who is taking comps this week.  Enjoy your visits if you are heading to GC!

I feel for all of you with the Christmas leave stuff.  I am lucky enough to have both of my sailors home this year, but next year, all bets are off.  It may be a very long time until I have all of my chicks back in their nest.  So it goes, I guess.  We knew that was going to be a part of this journey from the start, it just doesn't necessarily make it easier.

If my kids get BS for proto, we are exactly 4.44 miles over the Liberty limit.  Ugh--so close and yet, so far!  But, their brother is within the radius, so, I guess I feel some field trips coming on... :-)

So, class 1405 is graduating Power School on Friday!  Comps are Tuesday, I believe.  Hope everyone here with a sailor in that class passes. The MM told me not to worry, she will be fine.  Okay, then, I won't!  So excited!  Leaving Wednesday night for GC.  Countdown to Sailor Hugs!! =D

NDM, what a wonderful family picture.  Thanks for sharing it and your news as well.  Good to hear something positive.  Sending wishes that your progress continues.

And happy holidays to everyone else.  Can't believe Thanksgiving is almost here.  Kind of getting the hang of this "military family" stuff now that sailor is in power school.  Just taking it a week at a time.  Best to all !!

Comment by Mamma D on November 16, 2014 at 4:17pm
Yes I'm very lucky we only live 4 hours away so I do get to see him every few weeks!
