hey Krismom, my son PIR 4/29/11 and left for GC at 0600 4/30/11.  He didn't start A school until 5/23/11...He's an ET, but I think the MM's that had the same grad. date started a lot sooner.  The ETs and EMs had the long wait...

  Dor, how's the drive?

Sharon, praying that Diego does well!

Loving the stories about newlyweds and the Navy.  My Grandma was an Army wife for years, Grandpa was an Army Colonel and oral surgeon.  Their honeymoon was driving a car from Oregon to San Antonio along with a little dog her sister gave her as a wedding present.  At one point, the dog fell out of the car and Grandpa had to give him mouth to muzzle resuscitation!  All I can say is, WRITE IT DOWN!  Start a journal of your Navy life together...it won't take long to forget some of the details, and it will be a blessing to you and future generations.  :)

Bandito's mom, I can share what our son and his new wife did. They got engaged while he was in boot camp, he finished and then went to GC. He then came home for Christmas break, they were married on 22 December, called housing on the 23rd and had a house reserved for them and returned with their trucks and a small U-haul on the 29th. They went directly to housing, signed all the necessary papers, were given house keys and they moved in. Diego was able to put Kelsey on everything without any problems. They were re-imbursed for their move, though it was delayed due to one paper. They got that paper in and was paid without further issues. They live on base and are doing well. Good luck and best wishes to your son and new bride!!

Prayers for Diego and all those taking comps today. May they know they have the knowledge and wisdom to get through them. May God give them the strength and courage to know they will all do well!!! Go Diego!!

Yeah. One grandpa is a Marine (served in Korea and still has shrapnel in his stomach), the other was a sailor. I have two Marine cousins and a cousin married to a Marine. My brother is a sailor and my fiance. We don't normally have too much trash talk (after all, the Marines couldn't get anywhere without the Navy), but all it takes is one comment to make an explosion. :P

Bandito's Mom - my sailor married exactly 1 month before entering bootcamp.  When he finished bootcamp and got to Goose Creek, he went through a couple of days of indoc then housing info, getting a plane ticket, yada yada yada.  Actually didn't get to see their home until the day before he flew home and then only for 15 minutes because of time!!!  he flew home on Wednesday, we got the newlywed's new furniture delivered on Thursday, spent Thursday and Friday with him and they headed out in the car on Saturday with a few essentials.

they did a DITY move because he was told that the Navy move was about 2 - 4 weeks out at that point (couldn't be without furniture for that long).  The mover's came on Saturday (after they had left) so dear old mom had to oversee that.  The furniture arrived on Tuesday.

The Navy paid them some $ upfront for the move, then the balance when he turned in paperwork.

A lot of A schools aren't long enough for the Navy to move a spouse, but not so with the Nukes, they are in A school, T Track, Power School for a while, mine's a year so far and is graduating Power School next month.

hahahaha. I wanted to share. But I don't dare post it on Facebook: too many Marine family members to make mad. :P

Krismom- I think they form every week or two. But lately I've been hearing the wait time to class up for A school is about a month! There are tons of Nukes coming in from Boot!

amanda- I have heard of a half and half move. I do believe that the Navy will never ever pay to ship a car within the United States. I've seen posts from Anti M about this on the Girlfriends/Wives/Fiancees page. The only time they'll pay to move it is if you're going overseas (like to Japan). And I'm not sure its even a sure thing then.
I heard of one wife that I'm friends with on Facebook who did a Navy move, but the Navy considered it a half and half because she packed her car full of important things to her and drove to Charleston. They reimbursed her for her gas and such.

There was one wife who had to ship a car because she was in a serious accident when he was in boot and wasn't cleared to drive. So he drove one car and they shipped the other. I just talked to her and she said it was a company out of New York that did it for her. She said to tell you to go through a company directly and not a broker because the broker screwed her.
