Bandito's mom - sounds like your son is about at the same time frame as my son was.   As Emily just said, they should get two weeks off at Christmas.  My son come home on Saturday, the weekend before Christmas, and went back on New Year's Eve at midnight, getting him back there by noon on Saturday of New Year's Day and that gave him all day sunday to do laundry and re-adjust to being back.  We live in Phoenix so he had to come a long way too.

Bandito's Mom- NNPTC (The base for A school and Power School) shuts down for 2 weeks at Christmas time. Just about everybody gets to come home. :) Since your son will be in A school at that time, I see no reason why he wouldn't be able to come home for Christmas. 

Just remember- no one can guarantee when he'll get leave ever. Until he has that approved leave chit in his hand, nothing is official!

Kat, I know that it is way too early to plan for Christmas.  But, my son will be entering bootcamp early Sept and hopefully arriving Goose Creek early November, 2011.  I saw your comment about your sons first few weeks, could you tell me if your son had time off for Christmas?  Was it long enough to come home (to the West Coast).

hapsmolmr - What type of stuff did you have in mind on sending him to GC with?  Mostly they take their electronics, want their boxers, and my son went and bought himself sheets, a comforter, a pillow, and toiletry items.  Other than that, they don't need much else.  He won't be able to wear civilian clothes for a month or so, so you could send those to him later.

my son said they have a 4 day weekend for the 4th of July -- because he's planning to come home.

Do you ladies remember if there are restrictions on what my SR can bring to A school off the plane?  Don't want to send him with anything he will immediately get in trouble for having.

4th of July is a monday so I wouldn't see them having a 4 day weekend? I can ask Jacob tomorrow. 

 

They do usually get out early on fridays before holidays because all the officers want to get a head start on the weekend. Depends on who you have as an instructor. Jacob always seemed to get out by like noon on holiday weekends.

Luvnsupport- yes, definitely anything can change but in school they always get federal holidays. if the post office is closed, your boyfriend will have school off. that's an easy rule to remember. The only time he might not is if he's in indoc,t-track, or grad hold (all breaks when they aren't in classes but are working around base or standing watches) or during prototype, which you'll be a year at least away from going through. Since he'll be there for 2 weeks before 4th of july, i *think* he'll be out of indoc by then and actually doing a-school classes. If you make plans, i really do think you'll be ok. 

 

Any other moms have different experience about 3 day weekends?
