Luvnsupport-when does he actually get to Goose Creek?

When my son got there it was the day before Veteran's Day, Nov. 10.  So he go there Wed., had Thursday completely off, did I don't know what on Friday, had the weekend off, started indoc. on Monday thru Friday, had the following weekend off, then started classes the next Monday.  He is an MM so I hear they get started a little faster than the EMs and ETs.  But I know we can't always rely on that.  Once he started A school he had mandatory study hours on Sundays, and always had Friday evening and Saturday off, unless he had lots of study hours to make up.  After about the second week in A school they had to do watch quals. which means they had to schedule in 12 hours of shadowing people on watch to learn how to do it.  This was on top of their PT and classroom time and study time.  It was crazy for about 2 weeks with that going on too.  then once they were qualified for watch they had watch usually once a week, or every other week.  It would usually be like from 6-10 pm, in the classroom, so he could study at the same time as he was standing watch to be sure that people weren't throwing things away that they shouldn't, or not taking materials from the classroom, or excessive talking.   So, I think if your son get's there within two weeks of the 4th of July, he will surely have some time off during that weekend that he can go out with you.  I think they have an 8 or 10 pm curfew at first, and can't leave base until after 5:30 a.m., something like that.

If they do have a 4 day weekend for the 4th of July, I don't know if they will be off Monday and Tuesday or Friday and Monday.  We need to find out for sure, which should help a little for you.

My son said they have a 4 day weekend for the 4th of July?  Has anyone else heard of this?

BLW , I think someone else did have that problem.  I just can't remember who.

I have not been on regularly for the last week.  I miss you all!

Thanks, Amanda. My head hurts from so much information!  Yes, I don't even remember where I had seen it but I had downloaded the information and I read it again.  Is there a chance that they would have to work or get liberty taken away or does this not apply here at school anymore?  Would making travel plans be ok or is it another one of "anything can change" deals.

BLW --

Have you updated or changed your browser?  I did and now have all kinds of problems.  I was actually having another issue and wasn't able to respond to a private message from site support.  Thank goodness they left me an e-mail address as well.  When I mentioned my difficulty responding to private messages, they responded with this:

You mentioned your inbox was not working and a few others have reached out to me
regarding the same issue. Ning, our host site, responded with the
below:

"Sorry to hear your members are experiencing this issue! It sounds
like they might be using a browser that isn't supported, as we've received other
reports of people being unable to send or receive messages, only to find out it
was because they were using Internet Explorer 9. Internet Explorer 9 and Chrome
11.0 are both recently released browser versions that are not at this time
supported on the platform. Please suggest to your members who have reported this
issue that they try accessing the network in a different browser, such as
Firefox or Safari and see if that helps."

Please try a different browser
and let me know how it works.

Yes, they can go off base and will likely have Monday off. There's a discussion somewhere above that says "your sailor's schedule upon arriving". it'll tell you about what is allowed during each phase. Not sure if you saw this on the Nuke School Charleston site.

Hello everyone! I'm a newbie.  I have a question.  How does liberty work for the 4th of July weekend for sailors just arriving to "A" School down in Goose Creek. It falls about two weeks after arriving.  I'm assuming no overnight until they phase up, but will they have sat, sun and mon liberty during the day? off-base? Would this be a good time to visit?

I know I have shared this before, but just thought I'd share it again.  This site helps to feed homeless and hungry veterans.  they have some awesome stuff and prices aren't bad at all.  A lot of great gifts.

Shop to fund meals for homeless veterans: http://www.shop2give.us/Tr oopDeal

I saw a Senator or Congress Woman, can't remember which( she is the chairperson for the Veteran's admin., or something like that), on the news this morning, talking about our vets and how there is a 27% unemployment rate with vets.  It is so sad.  So many of our men and women come home and don't feel that their military experience translates into skills and they often leave their military service off of their resumes because they feel like their resume is put at the bottom of the pile.  As this lady said, our vets are the most hard working, punctual, team players an employer will ever find, and their military training and job skills should be highly sought after.

She said they are working on trying to get legislation to give military college credits or certifications for their military work so that this will carry with them, rather than them having to start over, when they get out of the military.  This is sooooo the right thing to do.

A very Blessed Memorial Day to all our vets and to all our current military personnel.  Your service is truly appreciated and never forgotten.

hey MN mommas, drive straight south through Memphis.  I'll put you up overnight going and coming home...and the price is right!  We'll be gone the weekend of June 10/11/12 but other than that, mi casa su casa.  I'm serious!  the largest group we've had over was 18 from Ft. Worth going to VA.  "friend" me here on N4M if it might work for you!   sorry, though, still haven't tried to make cake balls.  Would u settle for granola and yogurt?  :)
