Janis--the prototype ceremony, according to my sailor, was not like the one we went to for power school. Since we had already paid to bring him home, we did not attempt to make it. btw, his first flight out of Lambert was cancelled yesterday due to backup out of Atlanta. His second flight was about an hour delayed. So, 10 hours later, he made it back to C'town. he's packing for Groton now.

Hi Nuke Moms!
My son's PIR is Feb19th and then he's on his way to Goose Creek. We're all very excited for him. We will miss PIR, which of course makes me very sad, but it couldn't be helped. However, we're five or so hours from Charleston, and we're looking forward to seeing him asap. Does anyone know if we might be able to see him as soon as his second weekend there?? That's our hope.

I hope everyone is doing well, and thank you for being here for us new moms!

Just finishing a very wonderful trip to A School graduation. My husband and I drove our sons car out to him from California. We arrived here in Goose Creek Wednesday. Have been staying at the Villas ( a wonderful time and place to stay) It snowed last night, the first time in 10 years according to the news. We had about 6 inchs here where we are. Graduation was great and I got to host two dinners here and once out to eat with 8 to 12 of my sons classmates. I am sad to have to leave in the morning to return home. Can't wait until I can return for Power School graduation this fall. I'll have more than my son to watch and cheer for (his friends and classmates) and get to see one young familie's baby who should be walking by that time. I gave and received more hugs in the last few days to keep me pumped as a MOM for months.

One good thing about the delays is that it gives them more time to make second class before getting to a submarine. If they can do that, they won't have to mess crank on the boat (i.e. work as a "galley slave").

Grace - my son graduated prototype in December. If your son goes not graduate until May, he is in the jr. class now. My son was also frustrated at times at not being able to get the check offs done, but soon figured out that the instructors tend to spend time with the senior class ( it looks like there is one graduating in March) getting their check offs out of the way so they can graduate. Once his class became the sr. class - it seemed like he things went a lot faster. The quicker they get their check offs and watches done, the sooner they get to take their written comps - then will be scheduled for oral comps. Good luck - tell your son to hang in there!!

I believe that their Nuke committment starts when they graduate from Prototype.

Fear not,Sighthnlady. Your tax dollars are being used well at GC. They have the guys cleaning or doing other work so they remember that they are still in the military. Bored sailors tend to get into mischief. If your sailor is headed for a sub, he will spend his first months on board working in the mess. All that time training to be a Nuke and they spend their time peeling potatoes until they get their Fish. The Navy is its own world.

Hi, talked with my son who starts power school on 03/22 (he's on an overnight cleaning crew waiting for power school to start) he said that they were told they would be done/grad 09/03 - he was thinking it would be the end of the Sept. because he thought it would be a solid 6 month course. Then he said that his power school class is looking at not starting prototype for up to 18 months because of all the breakdowns they've been having at the training centers. Not sure if this is truth or not because it seems things change all the time with what hes being told. He also said he has not gotten any mail since just before they graduated A school, sounds like he is getting run around from everyone on how to rectify the situation. Not sure if this is happening with anyone else who graduated around 01/29 but just a heads up. His birthday is in March so maybe I better send that out now just in case.
Have a great valentines day everyone.
