Ladies:  This is a holiday weekend and things may fill up.  So you should plan to book your hotel rooms as soon as possible.  If the Great Lakes/Waukegan area hotels are full, try Lincolnshire IL.  See info below in my other post.

ProudNavyMom:  The Division number is the important thing anyway.  He'll get the letters!

They will find out about arrangements for A School about 3-4 weeks before PIR.

But as you are finding out, in this case, since it is Memorial Day weekend, it is best to make arrangements early!  Plan to stay through Monday at least in the event he is not a Sat or Sun departure.  There is a Six Flags nearby up there which could account for some of the full hotels in addition to PIR.  Some people stay in Lincolnshire.  A little further away, but many do it.  You may want to check out hotels in that area.  They have a Springhill Suites, Courtyard, and Marriott there (all Marriott hotels).  Also a Homewood Suites  (Hilton) and a few others.

JessicaB-Sailor Mom:  Sorry I didn't get to send ask this sooner but it's hard keeping up with all of these groups!  I read where you put an excerpt up from Arwen.  It stated that 900 divisions are in Ship 06.  My son's form letter (and his recruiter) told me that he is in Ship 02 (Reuben James) Division 928.  Is is possible he made a mistake in writing down his ship number?  I have mailed bunches of letters to that address; I hope that wherever he is that he gets them!!!  Help!

Also about the Monday after 05/27 PIR being a holiday...at what point in time do we usually find out when they will ship out to "A" school?  I know that my son is going to BESS (submarine school) in Groton after he graduates.  I don't know how you were able to make any type of reservations with so much in the air!  I realize he's only been there 2 weeks but some of the hotels are already booked up for that weekend!!!  Since I'm the one doing all of the reservations (my ex counts on me to do these things!) I'm freaking out because everything is filling up so fast.  Please help if at all possible.  Thank you so much for your insight and help!!!

I just read on the 5/20 PIR group that some just got their letters this week, so yours' should be coming the beginning of next week.

joankf, my form letter took about 11 or 12 days to get to me.  You will probably get something by Monday, I would think.

Hello Navymomyoung, I have yet to receive our form letter with my daughter's address or status. I have only had one phone call late on her arrival day, March 30th and no letters yet.  Her recruiter said to call Monday 4/11 and he expects to have her information then.  I have letters ready to send and many friends and family waiting for her address.  Waiting is the hardest!

...well, that is...if he for sure is at GL A School.  If not, then what Jessica said will apply.
Comment by diannep on April 8, 2011 at 7:22pm
Jessica: RTC FB has now said that all staying in GL for A School are GradNGo.  True or not?  Don't know...but if that is the case, then Kari would have him moving over there right after PIR...either way, Kari, you should have some nice daytime with him...he will have to be back on base at night.
