OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Kathy:  You may want to post your question to lemonelephant on the BootCamp Moms group.  You have a better chance of her seeing it there since she is on that group more often than the PIR groups!

This PIR group should be in training week 4.  This is Hell Week (busy with lots of inspections) but is also known as the turnaround week...things get much more positive for them now and you may see that expressed in their letters/calls.  They only have two more training weeks and they are sailors!  This happens at the end of training week 6, after BattleStations, their final test.  They will "lose" a couple of days of training for the Christmas and New Years Day holidays, when they will be on "hold."  But no worries....they will be PIRing on 01/11!

Have a wonderful day!

Thanks for the info on the ribbons.  I will be ordering some soon.   I will also have to check out the other stuff too.  I went to the FB page and hit Join now.  Is that all I have to do?

You ladies were right. The rubbing worked and I now have a glitter free card that is perfect.

Dianne is right. I will put first or last or even Proud Mom etc. Whatever you want on the ribbons. I think it confuses people because they see more pics with the first name but that's because last names were not always safe to be posted on group walls so I often took pics of the ribbons with the first names lol. There is a lot to choose from on the website for sure. I did a lot of my own Christmas shopping on my website lol. I made the ornaments for most of our family and hoodies too lol. Glad they are not on this site or they would know part of their gifts haha.

Comment by diannep on December 17, 2012 at 9:54pm

Kathy, Lala will put whatever name you want on it.  Remember, the SRs know each other by last names though.

Comment by Navymomkathy on December 17, 2012 at 9:46pm

I am going to order a couple of ribbons too but do you normally put their first name or last name on it?

Comment by KathyShip11/Div058 on December 17, 2012 at 9:30pm
Hey Lala, I went to your website, and I would like to order, but I have no idea how to choose one. Lol

Awesome idea. I didn't think of scraping it off. I think it is going to work. Thank You!
